The Elphinstone, a traditional coaching inn with wooden beams and a roaring open fire in the winter. Situated in the centre of Biggar, ideally located on the edge of the border, 30 minutes from Edinburgh and only a little further to Glasgow. The “Elph” has a friendly atmosphere offering a warm welcome to visitors and locals alike. Husband and wife team, Robert and Janette Allen have been at the heart of the business for over twenty years, priding themselves on the continued patronage of a busy local trade with a high level of repeat custom, which they believe tells its own story. The Hotel has been awarded the Eat Scotland award and offers a wide and varied menu using and sourcing fresh local produce where possible. The Hotel has also been shortlisted in 2 categories of the Lanarkshire Business Excellence Awards 2011, The Leisure and Tourism Category as well as Best Small Business.

We added 5 new bedrooms in late 2009 bringing to 11 the total number of rooms, all finished to a high standard. We also have a small function room, restaurant, lounge bar and public bar which has a large 3D Television showing Sky Sports. Free WiFi is available throughout the Hotel.
