Birchgrove

BIRCHGROVE is a modern house with large rooms and beautiful views. Our aim is to provide a comfortable bed, a good shower, and a tasty breakfast. The beds all have feather and down duvets, and the showers are superb - large and with a good pressure. Our breakfasts are both warming and filling, with coffee in cafetieres, and home made bread toasted to perfection.
After breakfast you will be fit and ready to visit Iona, to watch out for wildlife, to hunt for your heritage, or simply to savour the island and its stunning scenery. There are boat trips to Staffa, and out to watch whales. There are safari trips to see eagles, and otters, and deer - and there are walking tours tailored to your abilities and aspirations.
Lochdon is situated conveniently at the epi-centre of the island. From here it is a long hour's drive to Iona, and a short hour to Tobermory. We suggest you stay two, or three days for your first visit. One day should be to Tobermory, Dervaig, Calgary and the stunning west coast. One day should be for Iona, Staffa and Fingal's cave, and the other day to visit Duart castle, Torosay castle (really a mansion), and Lochbuie beach. If the weather is good your visit will be stunning. If the weather is poor it will still be memorable.
Your holiday to Mull starts with the ferry trip. From the deck of the ferry are some of the best views in the world, stretching from Ben Nevis in the North, to the Paps of Jura in the South. (That's about sixty miles all told!) On a calm day it is liquid magic; on a rough day the boat wobbles a bit but it's hardly worth noting. You can feed the seagulls, watch the dolphins or porpoises, spot the shags, or even catch a glimpse of a whale. (I did the other day).
Passing by gaunt Duart castle - home of the Clan Maclean- you feel the past slipping over you, the present slowing down, and the future stretching on for ever. On Mull, time slows down, people are friendly, and life is a pleasure. The rolling hills, the wide skies, the wonderful wildlife, and the warm welcome all go to make your holiday one to remember for a long, long while - or at least until you come back again...
Returning to BIRCHGROVE at the end of your day, there is the usual hospitality tray with six different teas and two different coffees, along with a comfortable settee to relax on. Each room has its own television, and guests are welcome to borrow from our library in the porch. There are three places to eat at within a ten minute drive, and another two within twenty minutes, so you can ring the changes without going too far.
We are part of the MULL ECO CHARTER scheme, and adopt green practices whenever possible. As with all Scotland, the inside public areas are NO SMOKING areas, but we go one step further at BIRCHGROVE and ask guests not to smoke in the garden either.
When you book a holiday with us, you can be assured of being well rested, well fed and well looked after.
