Getting there from the Information Centre

The closest Tourist Centre is at Portree, the capital of Skye. Follow the main road A87 south for Broadford. At the Sligachan Hotel, turn right onto the A863 for Dunvegan. Turn left at the B8009 proceeding through Carbost, past the Talisker Distillery, up the hill and through Fernilea, following Loch Harport. At Portnalong, turn left toward Fiskavaig. The Rowans is the first house on the left. Time from Portree: 30 minutes.

Getting There by Car

Skye is connected to the mainland by a road bridge at Kyle of Lochalsh. The bridge was initially a toll bridge but is now free. Once on the island, turn right at the roundabout towards Broadford. Follow the A87 through Broadford and via Sconser to Sligachan. At the Sligachan Hotel, turn left onto the A863 for Dunvegan. Turn left at the B8009 proceeding through Carbost, past the Talisker Distillery, up the hill and through Fernilea, following Loch Harport. At Portnalong, turn left toward Fiskavaig. The Rowans is the first house on the left. Time from Kyle of Lochalsh: 50 minutes. NOTE: if you use a SatNav, make sure it does not direct you via Mallaig unless you have planned to cross by ferry.

Getting There by Railway

The closest train station is Kyle of Lochalsh. Car hire is also available at Kyle. Bus services run from Kyle to Broadford and Portree. There is also a bus service from Portree to Fiskavaig, which passes the house. If you plan to arrive on public transport please let us know and we will be glad to pick you up from a nearby location if necessary.

Getting there by Aeroplane

Glasgow and Edinburgh airports are both about 5 hours away, and Inverness Airport is 2.5 hours away. If you are flying, the most practical arrangement is to hire a car at the airport. From Edinburgh, take the M90 and A9 up to Inverness. From Inverness, take the A82 to Invermoriston and then the A887 and A87 to Kyle. From Glasgow, take the A82 through Fort William and up to the A87 at Invergarry, then on to Kyle. Once on the island, turn right at the roundabout and take the A87 to Broadford. Follow the road through Broadford and through Sconser to Sligachan, then follow the directions above.

Getting There by Ferry

In addition to the road bridge, there are ferries from Mallaig to Armadale and a summer ferry from Glenelg to Kylerhea. From Armadale, follow the A851 to Broadford and on to Sligachan. At the Sligachan Hotel, turn left onto the A863 for Dunvegan. Turn left at the B8009 proceeding through Carbost, past the Talisker Distillery, up the hill and through Fernilea, following Loch Harport. At Portnalong, turn left toward Fiskavaig. The Rowans is the first house on the left. Time from Armadale: 1 hour.
