Burnbrae Holidays - Images
Many of our guests have told us that our cottages are the best ones they have used. This is one reason why we are confident that you will enjoy the experience of a self catering holiday at Burnbrae.
At Burnbrae, guests find tranquility, comfort, space and a refreshing absence of problems. The site is surrounded by agricultural land but is no longer a working farm. Our time and other resources are devoted to ensuring that you have an idyllic experience in the Scottish Borders. We live on the site and are pleased to help guests with information and other assistance
"We have nothing but praise for the cottages. They are in a lovely setting"
Gaze from your conservatory across the secluded garden and pasture to the Eden Water, the river along the southern boundary of Burnbrae.
"Cottage is super, excellent value for money."
Living rooms are spacious and light. Each has a large window facing south and a stove for cosy winter evenings.
"We used the conservatory a lot"
Each living room has direct, level access to the south-facing conservatory.
In the bedroom of Mungo' Well, the beds can be arranged as twins or linked and zipped together as a king size bed. Thairn has an extra-long king size bed
"We are delighted with everything. Thank you for making our holiday in the Borders so memorable."
Proprietors, Sam and Pat, live on the site and aim to assist guests in any way they can. If you wish to return to a cosy glow after a walk in winter, just ask us to light the fire in your cottage.
Guests enjoy lovely views from their sheltered patios. Loungers are provided too.
There is always wildlife of some kind on the move in the area overlooked from the conservatory and patio. Heron patroling so gracefully, unless being harassed by a crow, an owl gliding silently by in the evening or hares playing on a spring afternoon.
"This is a special place to return to"
In April, a pair of swans joined other birds in residence on our pond, where a variety of wildlife can be seen from each cottage, even (rarely) an otter. Stoats and buzards are seen more often.
Cheviot can be seen beyond the valley of the Tweed from the patio and conservatory. In the garden are two large logs used as seats.
"Thank you for a wonderful holiday. Cottage is very well equipped. Provided us with everything and more than we needed. You have created a very special haven."
The kitchen is fully equipped, including fridge-freezer, combination oven, and hob. In the living room are tv, dvd player, vcr and hi fi, Broadband internet connection is available. A bedside clockradio is provided.
In addition to the possibilities for short walks within Burnbrae, there are walks starting at the site. A walk to Hume castle is popular. Although spectacular in places, the Borders countryside
is not intimidating and there is a wide choice of walking of all levels of difficulty. The region has less rain and more dry, sunny weather than do the
more western parts of Britain.
Anyone with an interest in stitch, textures, colours or textiles will enjoy a workshop at Burnbrae. Our workshops are generally suitable for complete beginners
in a particular technique through to those with years of experience. Groups are small, some as small as 7, others up to 12, depending on subject matter.
Just 5 km from Kelso, with its splendid square, many individual shops and abbey ruins.
Burnbrae is within 40 minutes by car from the east coast villages, superb coastal scenery, Edinburgh, Cheviot and Tweedale hills, the individualistic Borders towns and numerous stately homes and gardens.
