East Mains House - Auchterhouse - Images

Welcome to the annexe of East Mains House in Auchterhouse. The property is a ground floor, one bedroom flat next to a working farm. It is ideally suited for Dundee being only 8 miles from the city centre and for accessing the Sidlaw Hills, Angus glens and towns. There are many excellent golf courses in the area including Rosemount in Blairgowrieand Carnoustie - home to the Open. Glamis Castle, the childhood home of the late Queen Mother, is 7 miles from the property, and the town of Kirriemuir, home of the author of "Peter Pan" is 15 miles. There are fishing lochs nearby and the potential for a walking holiday is immense. Dundee itself is a bustling city with plenty to see and do, the historic ship "The Discovery" is berthed on the River Tay and is certainly worth a visit.

Kitchen of East Mains Annexe

The kitchen of the flat is well-equipped with an electric oven, microwave, kettle, toaster. Everything you would expect in a kitchen so you don't need to bring any cutlery, washing up liquid, kitchen towels etc with you. There is even salt, pepper and sugar provided.

A welcome pack of bread, milk, jam and biscuits is always provided along with tea and coffee so you can relax with a cup of tea after a long journey. In the fridge you may find some fresh eggs from the owners flock of chickens though that is dependent on how they are feeling!

Living room of East Mains Annexe

The living room of the property is a good size with a dining table and chairs, a comfortable sofa and easy chairs and a television with integral DVD player. There is room here for an extra bed if you are a party of 3. There is also plenty of information provided for all the attractions, restaurants and activities in the surrounding area.

The small bathroom is between the living room and the bedroom. There is a bath with a shower attachment. All towels are provided at no extra cost.

The bedroom contains a very comfortable king sized bed and a fireplace, which is purely for decorative purposes. Again all linen is provided, as are 2 cosy dressing gowns. There is a chest of drawers and a large cupboard for storing clothes. There is space in this room for a spare bed or a cot if required.

The room looks out onto part of the garden of the main house. The owners, Barbara and Clive, are happy for you to wander around the garden, there are 3 sections, but warn you may get accosted by children, dog, cat and chickens!

Angus countryside

The hamlet of Auchterhouse is at the foot of the Sidlaw Hills in the county of Angus. The climb up Auchterhouse Hill, which is not too taxing, is rewarded with a fantastic view of Angus, Dundee and the River Tay.

The property is not far from the Angus glens which provides excellent walking and other activities. The picture is of Backwater reservoir in Glen Isla. Near Auchterhouse itself there is the country sports facility which provides clay pigeon shooting and quad biking. There are a couple of fishing lochs where you can while away the hours catching your supper. The nearest golf courses are at Camperdown towards Dundee and Strathmore or Alyth in Angus. St Andrews is only a 45 minute drive away to visit the home of golf. The property makes an ideal base to explore the hills and the coast of Angus, most places are only a short drive away.

Glamis castle

The home of the late Queen Mother, Glamis Castle, is about 7 miles from the property. It is a lovely visit inside the castle and the grounds. It is fascinating to hear the old history but also more recent times that we can recall.

Glamis village is a charming wee village to visit as is the town of Kirriemuir, known as the "Gateway to the Glens". Forfar is a larger market town about 15 miles from the property and Perth is within easy reach being about 25 miles by car.
