Muirhouses Farm - Images

Farmhouse & garden

Muirhouses farmhouse is set in a large mature garden with colour and wildlife all year round.

The garden is a haven for wildlife and birds (as well as guests). There are nest boxes ranging in size from barn owls to bluetits.
Azaleas, rhodos and daffodils colour the garden in spring followed by colorful herbaceous borders and flowering shrubs in summer.

Muirhouses Farm

Muirhouses Farm lies at the foot of the glens of Clova, Prosen and Moy. We have a stunning panorama of the hills and mountains with the Airlie monument on Tulloch Hill dominating the near landscape.
The crops produced are malting barley, biscuit wheat, oilseed rape, potatoes and grass. We have a herd of Limousin beef cows producing quality beef for local butchers.

Our own windpower!

We generate most of our electricity with the wind turbine we invested in last year. What we don't use goes into the national grid, and if we need more than is being produced we can take from the grid.

The cream of the pedigree calves may be sold to other breeders, but the cross calves are sold locally for quality beef.
The cattle graze grass fields April - October and are then wintered indoors due to wet field conditions.
Winter feed is silage and hay made during the summer.
