Ceol Na Mara

Ceol Na Mara

Information enquiry Booking

Enjoy the privacy and seclusion of this recently re-furbished early 20th century Hebridean house set in 55 acres of unspoiled crofting land enjoying spectacular views over Loch Kindebig and beyond to the Minch and the Isle of Skye, yet only a few minutes from the Ferry Terminal at Tarbert.

Fishing Trips, Golf, Walking Tours, Tennis and Pleasure boat trips can all be arranged.

The house was originally built in the early part of the 20th century and fell into considerable disrepair during the 70s and 80s. In 1996 a major refurbishment was done to bring the house up its present 4 -Star standard. The house name " Ceol na Mara " is Gaelic for " Music of the Sea " - aptly named because of the haunting melodic tones of the water reverberating off the rocks in the tidal loch way below the house. The only remaining aspect from the original house was the staircase: the fireplace as well as the original walls. A three storey extension was built joining with the original structure to complete the renovations into the present house which is illustrated in the website at www.ceolnamara.com

As well as the traditional Scottish breakfast which includes Freshly squeezed juice / Hebridean smoked fish / Free range eggs / Locally made sausages and black puddings, we offer a fixed menu three-course dinner featuring the best of Hebridean Home Cooking.
Every visitor to this magical place of Mountains and unspoiled beaches leaves the land as it was but takes away experiences and visions. For some there are personal transformations The Isle of Harris is the living heart of Gaeldom. Gaelic is in daily use at work and in the home.
English is of course used with equal fluency. There is a great attraction in the soft sounds of spoken English from the native Gaelic speaker, but to hear the melodious language itself spoken in Harris, with the ancient Harris accent, convinces that this historic tongue was created for poetry and music.
