Information enquiry Booking

Croys an elegant Georgian House, (featured in November issue of 'Period House and Scotland' on Sunday 24 October 2004) dating from the 17th century with Victorian extensions lies in 35 acres of parkland and gardens with well established Topiary and Walled garden,

The owners rear rare breeds of sheep cattle and pigs including Belted Galloway cows and Icelandic, Shetland, Jacob, Castlemilk Morit and Ryland sheep. Cross-bred Old Spot and Tamworth pigs are special treasures. They also use Norwegian Fiord horses and a Dales pony for carriage driving.

The house sits in an elevated position in the Urr Valley well known for its trout, salmon and sea trout fishing. Croys has many attractive south facing rooms with original fine plaster work. The dining room has French windows leading to the sunken garden surrounded by Topiary. The grounds have a fine carpet of both snowdrops and bluebells alongside our stream during the season. This is a comfortable house especially in winter having large open log fires in all reception rooms. Guests have remarked on our 5 star foods, produced from our own garden and stock animals. Home-made preserves, home produced meat all aid the 5 star rating.

Castle Douglas, Scotland's Food Town, is 3 miles away. A short distance from the A74 providing quick access to the Ireland Ferry on main motorway routes north and south, yet is very quiet, untroubled by passing traffic. Threave, a National Trust property in Castle Douglas, is a popular garden especially at daffodil time. The Galloway Hills are popular for hill walkers and are part of the Southern Upland Way.

The Solway Coast, 6 miles away, a safe and happy playground for the children. Re-introduced Ospreys and Kites are easily observed either in flight or on closed circuit TV.

Several reserves cater for ducks, swans and geese and offer well sited and comfortable hides.

Loch Ken, about 7 miles away, provides for fishing and sailing offering courses at varying levels of skill and at all ages. Water-skiing is also an added attraction.

We are sure that you will not be disappointed at any time of the year.

We also provide Self Catering accommodation, a first floor flat in block of four, central location in preserved village of Gatehouse of Fleet which has been newly furnished throughout and accommodates up to 5 people
