Briar Lea House

Briar Lea is a large country house set in 1.75 acres overlooking open countryside in the northern border regions of Cumbria, Briar Lea is an ideal base for exploring the historic city of Carlisle, the Scottish Borders, Gretna Green and Hadrian's Wall and the house itself is situated on the corner of the Solway Moss Battlefield, on the site of the Scottish encampment.

We have 3 ground floor, en-suite rooms plus 2 Standard first floor rooms which share a bathroom. All our rooms are centrally heated and have hospitality trays, hair dryers and colour TV. We are open for guests all year round. Our family and spa rooms have a separate reception entrance. Our gardens are available for your enjoyment and relaxation or you can take advantage of our heated swimming pool (available May to September). All our rooms are Non-smoking for your comfort.

We are situated 4 miles from Gretna in a rural location which is ideal for families, weddings, walking, fishing etc.

Around & About

Longtown

Longtown sits on the river Esk, being the natural border with Scotland, and has seen many centuries of border warfare. Also it is home to Englands largest sheep market auction.

Whilst there are plenty of walks, you can also visit many other attractions in the area. Local leisure activities include golfing, horse riding, bird watching and fishing. All can be enjoyed within a few minutes drive of Briar Lea House.

Gretna Greens Blacksmiths Shop, famous for its weddings is only 4 miles away.

Carlisle

Carlisle has 2000 years of border history with castles, forts and the famous Hadrians Wall nearby.

Carlisle is renowned for its choice of shops, covered market and new Lanes complex, but still retains some of its old world charm.

A wide range of entertainment is available in Carlisle to suit all ages.

Being situated in the Borders we are also in prime position for exploring The Lake District

Group Bookings

We offer a warm welcome to a variety of interest groups, e.g. cyclists, walkers, fishermen, bikers, horse riders, birdwatchers, church fellowships and leaders. Whilst not being a large complex we are able to offer accommodation for a maximum of fourteen people sharing, with a mix of single and double beds available.

A room can be provided for small business conferences, meetings, and training (video, OHP, flip chart & internet access available).

Briar Lea House is available for away days, retreats, church leaders and Alpha groups etc.

Special needs groups are very welcome and we have many years experience in this area of work.

Well-behaved pets are welcome by prior arrangement

Packed lunches available by prior arrangement
