Come and discover one of Skye’s best kept secrets; we look forward to welcoming you soon.

Sheltered by a belt of beautiful trees in a secluded, loch-side setting, Greshornish House makes an idyllic retreat. The sense of staying in a country house that remains a real family home adds greatly to the atmosphere. Combine this with the individual character of each of the six principal letting rooms, the fascinating history of the house, the comfort of the public rooms and the excellent food, and the end result is a beguiling experience. Frankly, Skye hospitality doesn’t get more authentic or enjoyable than this!

Non-residents are welcome for meals. There will however be days during 2011 when our dining room will not be open to non-residents, so booking in advance is essential.

Seafood lunches have become a summer season speciality, with fresh crustaceans from the waters of Lochs Greshornish, Snizort and Dunvegan, and local fish from Mallaig and The Minch. These lunches are normally available daily (except Mondays and Tuesdays) from 12.15 to 2.00 pm from mid-June until September, provided that they are booked in advance. Impromptu callers, however hungry, may well find themselves disappointed!

Candle lit dinner prices start at £40 per head. Some evenings, a lighter supper menu may also be available; please contact us for further details.

Greshornish House's seclusion and magnificent setting make it an ideal location for a private gathering of any description, be it a family get-together, a seminar, a meeting or a wedding. For this sort of event the house is available on an exclusive use basis. Greshornish House is licensed for civil weddings, which can take place in various parts of the grounds or within the house. Weddings with anything between 2 and 48 guests can be readily accommodated.

What sets Greshornish House apart is the fact that it is the ultimate in country house hotels: a country house that remains a real family home.

There has been a homestead on the site for the better part of 1000 years, and the current house, a traditional white manor house, dates from the 18th century. Samuel Johnson and James Boswell called in at “Grishnish” in 1773, en route to Dunvegan, and later, in the 19th century, it was the home of Kenneth Macleod.

A sense of tranquillity begins to descend the moment you turn off the main road and is complete when you sink into a soft chair in the drawing room. The extreme peace of this hidden away location is almost tangible and really rather special.

Greshornish House appeals very directly to anyone wanting to experience a way of life otherwise wholly inaccessible to most of us. The draw of the country house way of life is strong, and to find one that actually is a country house as much as a hotel ensures that Greshornish has a strong attraction for many of us.

The house is generally closed to visitors for two weeks in November, for Christmas and for much of January and February. The conservatory and dining room are open to non- residents, except Mondays and Tuesdays, but booking ahead is essential to avoid disappointment.
