The Retreat Castle - Getting There
Getting there from the Information Centre
From Newtongrange Tourist Information Centre (located at the Scottish Mining Museum on the A7) - take the A7 until crossroads with a Shell petrol station on the right. Turn right onto the B704 to Bonnyrig - continue for 1.5 miles until roundabout (Cockpen). Take first exit. The Retreat Castle is on the left.
Getting There by Car
skipFrom city bypass leave at Sheriffhall roundabout and head south on A7 sign posted Galashiels, Hawick and Carlisle. Follow A7 south until fourth roundabout sign posted The Hardengreen roundabout - take third exit and head up the hill. At next roundabout take the second exit. The Retreat Castle is the first opening on the left.
Getting There by Railway
From Waverley Station head towards A7. Stay on A7 until Sheriffhall roundabout. At Sheriffhall roundabout take A7 south towards Galashiels, stay on the A7 passing through 3 roundabouts. At the fourth roundabout take the exit for Bonnyrigg and at next roundabout take second exit. The Retreat Castle is on the left.
Getting there by Aeroplane
Edinburgh Turnhouse then south on the city bypass A720 towards Berwick Upon Tweed. At Sheriffhall roundabout take A7 south towards Galashiels, stay on the A7 passing through 3 roundabouts. At the fourth roundabout take the exit for Bonnyrigg and at next roundabout take second exit. The Retreat Castle is on the left.
Getting There by Ferry
From Leith take coastal road towards Musselburgh. Follow this road until the A720 city bypass is reached. Turn right and follow bypass to Sheriffhall roundabout. At Sheriffhall roundabout take A7 south towards Galashiels, stay on the A7 passing through 3 roundabouts. At the fourth roundabout take the exit for Bonnyrigg and at next roundabout take second exit. The Retreat Castle is on the left.
