Rhenigidale Hostel - Getting There
Getting there from the Information Centre
From Tarbert Tourist Information Centre, either follow instructions given from ferry terminal or take the coastal path. Take road to Kyles, Scalpay for 2 miles. Just after Laxdale Lochs, at a bend, follow track on left across hills. There is a clear path over shoulder of Trollamul. Do not take right fork to Molinginish. After fork, path zigzags steeply down and follows coast to Rhenigidale. Allow at least 2 hours and use an O.S map. Path is not suitable for bikes, or in the dark.
Getting There by Railway
From Glasgow, Queen Street Station, the West Highland Railway goes to Mallaig. From there, travel onward by ferry to Skye, then by bus to Uig ferry terminal. Ferries sail to Tarbert, Isle of Harris. From Tarbert, follow instructions from ferry terminal.
Getting there by Aeroplane
From Stornoway airport, follow the road from the airport for approximately 1/4 mile to Melbost villiage. The local bus service will take you to the bus station in Stornoway. From there take the Harris bus to Maaruig, then follow the well-signposted directions to the Rhenigidale hostel.
Getting There by Ferry
From Uig, sail to Tarbert, Harris. From there you can travel by bus, walk or cycle along the A859 towards Stornoway. Take the turning signposted 'Maaruig'. This is along Clisham, highest point of Harris. The road goes downhill for 1/2 a mile, then after a hairpin bend, there is a junction (by phonebox). Turn right and continue for four miles to Rhenigidale, the road ending. The hostel is the white building standing above the road on the east side of the valley.
