Newton Stewart Youth Hostel (SYHA)
This hostel is set in a fine hillwalking and cycling area on the outskirts of the picturesque town of Newton Stewart.
Housed in an old Victorian school building, the hostel is just 8 miles from the famous long distance walking route, the Southern Upland Way, and close to the Galloway Forest Park with its 300 square miles of beautiful green forest, heather-clad hills, wealth of wildlife and two of the 7stanes mountain biking centres, Glentrool and Kirroughtree. At night, it is also one of the best spots in the UK for stargazing with the naked eye, as it’s the first Dark Sky Park in the UK and one of only two in Europe!
Spend days pony trekking, fishing in the River Cree, spotting wildlife on the nature trails of Clatteringshaws and exploring the RSPB reserve at Wood of Cree. Nearby, Glen Trool also offers a treasure trove of natural wonders, scenic walks and world-class mountain biking.
