A good central place to stay when touring the North Coast, passing through Mackay Country as you tour Smoo Caves, Castle of Mey, John OGroats, nature reserves and the many local communities all with lots of history to name but a few.

Enjoy after dinner stories with locals and Ghillies about large Salmon and feisty Trout, go fishing yourself on Rivers and Lochs and create another tale. You may prefer Hill walking, Bird watching, Mountain biking or history/Archaeology/Geology or just wander in the walled garden. Borgie Forest and Glen are wonderful places to walk there is an abundance of fungi, many trails and the wildlife is varied you could be surprised by a cheeky otter or an eagle.

There are local museums at Jimsons Croft, Skerray and Bettyhill where you can get a taste of crofting history, Island life and the close links with Scandinavia and the Viking past. Down at the Harbour you can see Seals or get a local lobster, even hire a boat for fishing or to visit the Islands. There is a very good beach and plenty of surf.
