Castleton is a privately owned and run Country House Hotel close to Glamis with an excellent reputation for fine food and good service.

Set in 10 acres of beautiful Strathmore countryside the hotel provides a relaxing retreat in fine comfort. As just one of 6 Eat Scotland Gold Awards and 3AA Rosettes, Castleton’s food is well recognised as exceptional, with many of its ingredients coming directly from the hotel’s own grounds, including the pork which comes from their own herd of Tamworth pigs.

With just six bedrooms the house offers an intimacy and level of service that is warm and friendly. This unique country house hotel employs all local staff who with their innate knowledge of the area and its many attractions will go to great lengths to personally see to or arrange any detail of your stay. Castleton is an excellent base for visiting Tayside. Regularly singled out as a favourite by hotel inspectors and visitors alike, Castleton has received many accolades and commendations over the years that assure its place amongst Scotland’s most enjoyed hotels.

Of the six lovely bedrooms, one is a four poster suite and enjoys plenty of space, good light, a charming dressing area formed out of the turret of the house is particularly characterised by the antique furniture especially the Regency four poster bed. Another room is classified as superior, this overlooks the garden at the front of the house and is particularly notable for its view, space, large bathroom and walk in wardrobe. All bedrooms offer natural light as do most of the bathrooms, they are well proportioned and provide everything you would expect of a top level hotel. Throughout the hotel free Wi Fi access is available and there is a laptop for hire as well.

Away from the technical age there is a lovely garden to enjoy including a woodland path that encircles the hotel and is home to many songbirds and native woodland life including red squirrels.

Domestically though, the hotel’s free range chickens and ducks enjoy the woods and particularly the burn that meanders through the policy. A well established kitchen garden and fruit orchard provides excellent ingredients for the kitchen to use and in the small paddock there are a small family of highland cattle and of course the hotels own Tamworth pigs. Guests are welcome to wander freely about the grounds and may also purchase any of the home produce that they may like to take away. The croquet lawn and putting green are a popular focus for summertime lunches or romantic strolls, but if you choose to visit the hotel in winter time the atmosphere is just as special inside beside a roaring log fire, surrounded by top quality current magazines and journals. Castleton is an ideal venue to be hired for exclusive use, the house is perfect for parties of up to 50 guests and is professionally managed throughout according to the wishes of the host or hostess. The food and service for no matter how many is consistently high with Castleton’s reputation for fine food extending all over Scotland.
