The main staircase will be one of the first features to greet you.
Above the stairs, around the gallery landing, hang family portraits giving Castleton a particular homely feel. The owners are keen art collectors and all the rooms enjoy original works for all eras.
The library bar with its books, newspapers, magazines, guide books and maps will keep you absorbed whilst you enjoy the log fire.
The bar is the essential hub of the ground floor, right in the heart of the building and with plenty of reading material to enjoy, you can sit in comfort and relish the general bustle of hotel life with a roaring log fire to complete the picture.
Settle down in to the plumped cushions of the armchairs beside the fire and doze off. If you have a gathering of family and friends, why not get out the games. At Castleton there is an assortment of board games, jigsaws and cards to enjoy at any time.
The Large Sitting room is regularly used to entertain groups for drinks prior to a special dinner. Canapes are passed around and the champagne flows.
This formal room may also be used to hold wedding ceremonies in, with bride and grooms often tying the knot in the bay window overlooking the garden.
Refresh yourself at Castleton. Pimms on the lawn whilst enjoying a game of Croquet on a Summer's afternoon is a British classic. Oversee fairplay from the swing seat under the Rowan Tree at the top of the lawn.
Castleton offers 10 acres of grounds for guests to roam and enjoy. The Ducks and Chickens are all free range and very friendly. Cross the bridge over the burn and explore the hotel's kitchen garden with its orchard and soft fruit cage. By all means pick a few!
Your hosts, David and Verity Webster. David has enjoyed many years in the hotel industry including senior posts in hospitality leviathans such as Claridges and the Savoy Group of 1980's.
David and Verity have been at Castleton since 2000, and have gradually returned this much loved house and grounds be one of Scotlands leading hotels for genuine good hospitality and service. This is recognised by the Gold stars awarded by VisitScotland.
We home rear our own Tamworth pigs, in the grounds here at Castleton. Come and visit them.
Since 2004 Castleton has been rearing its own pork for the restaurant. The initiative has attracted a good deal of press and TV coverage as the hotel demonstrates its commitment to good food sourcing, as well as animal welfare and environmental issues.
