Bhalasaigh (Valasay Self Catering Holidays) - Images
These photos will give you a flavour of the quiet hamlet of Valasay and surrounding areas. Valasay is a cul-de-sac of only 6 houses scattered along the shore line. No rush hour traffic here, just Iain and Donald tending their sheep!
The house at 25 Valasay
This photo shows the exterior of the house. The self catering entrance is at the side and sitting room and bedroom windows overlook the Kyles of Valasay.
Curl up by the cosy fire.
Relax by the fire after an active day walking, bird watching or sea kayaking. Even if the weather is lovely there is something special about an open fire to soothe you.
The spacious double bedroom overlooks the sea
The Posturepaedic bed dressed with crisp cotton bedlinen will endure sweet dreams
The twin bedded room
Wake up to sunshine each morning as the generously sized twin bedroom fills with the dawning sun. This room has a view over the back garden to the Bernera hills. Not another house to be seen!
The beautiful Bosta beach
This stunning place is home to the remains of an Iron Age round house village. The site was excavated in 1996 and since then the Community raised enough funds to build a reconstruction. In the summer there is live interpretation.
On the coastal walk to Bosta
From our house you can enjoy a circular walk to Bosta. The walk follows the coastline to Tobson and round to Bosta, a beautiful place to stop for your picnic. The walk will take around 4 hours to complete depending on fitness.
The ferry arrives.
Travelling by ferry has become so much quicker in recent years. The journey from Ullapool to Stornoway takes just 2 hours 40 minutes and Uig in Skye to Tarbert, Harris even shorter at 1 hr 30 mins.
November at Valasay
This photo was taken on the 26th of November when England was being battered by storms. Sometimes people have the impression of the Hebrides having bad weather from October onwards. I hope this photo shows that you can still come in Autumn and have good walking weather. One of the things I really like about living here is the warm golds and fiery reds of the grass at this time of year. We may not have the trees but we certainly don't miss out on autumnal colours!
Sunset at Valasay
This fantastic photo of Valasay shows the view over to the Uig district of Lewis. Don't you wish you were here?
Kayaking at the bottom of the drive
Our neighbour has just returned from Pabbay after an enjoyable days escape
Standing Stones at Callanish
This world famous site is second only in the UK to Stonehenge. This photograph captured by Ian Clarke, one of our former guests, shows the texture of the stone beautifully.
Broch at Dun Carloway
Again another of our guests excellent photos showing the fortified building which is protected by Historic Scotland
Alternative walks in Bernera
There is a fantastc circular walk from the house to the beach at Bosta, but there a couple of less well known walks which are equally enjoyable. This photo is from one to a Dun in Loch Bharavat and again is just a short stroll from the house.
Ultimate Tranquillity!
There's an amazing sense of calmness at Bosta that I can't quite describe. It must be something to do with the power of the water and the sense of Mother Nature. It just needs to be experienced!
The Kyles of Valasay
This photo looks up the Kyles of Valasay from the main part of our croft. For those who have visited already, you'll remember our house sits just on the right side of this photo.
The bridge crosses the Kyles of Valasay which is a marine Special Area for Conservation, and is protected under European Legislation. The bridge you can see is over 100 years old but hasn't been here as long as my family has. Who can blame them for not moving!
