Earnknowe Holiday Cottages
EARNKNOWE SELF-CATERING HOLIDAY COTTAGES in MacLaren country, are set amongst the Scottish Central Highlands in the Breadalbane sector of the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park. Earnknowe was once a small farm and faces south, with spectacular views over Loch Earn to the mountains and Edinample Castle.
A 300 year old barn has been converted into three, two-bedroomed cottages - Arran, Bute and Cumbrae. There is a one-bedroomed cottage - Kintyre, ideal for two people and a two-bedroomed lodge or cabin - Mull, which has all accommodation on one level and a Disabled Category 3 rating. All the accommodation faces south with magnificient views over Loch Earn where ospreys can often be seen hunting for brown trout.
Our self-catering accommodation is maintained to a high standard and have a Visit Scotland 3 Star rating. Mull cottage has a large shower room with a spacious living and kitchen area. There is a double and twin bedroom and storage heating. In the other cottages there are very efficient wood burners to keep you cosy in the winter months and ample electric heaters. Arran, Bute and Cumbrae each has two bedrooms - a double and a twin - a bathroom with a bath with electric shower and a large living room with an archway leading to a fully fitted kitchen. Kintyre, our favourite cottage, has a double bedroom, shower room and a living room with kitchen area. Car parking is close to each cottage and there is a large garden area with picnic tables.
Around Earnknowe Holiday Cottages there is much to see and explore and you can meet the donkeys, the hens are likely to call on you and you may see red squirrels and red deer around the old railway cutting running behind the cottages. You can walk down this old line to the village of Lochearnhead. There is fishing off our jetty and we can arrange for you to launch your boat at the Lochearnhead Watersport Centre.
In the village of Lochearnhead, within easy walking distance, there is a small grocery shop and a Post Office with a free ATM machine. There are two good hotels that have bar and restaurant facilities.
Nearby is Killin with Loch Tay and the spectular Falls of Dochart with the Ben Lawers mountain range. Activities like golf can be played locally in Callander, St Fillans and Killin. There is trout and salmon fishing on the Teith, Forth and Tay river systems but for the more energetic, activities including watersports on Loch Earn and Loch Tay or cycling - the Sustrans Route 7 runs past Lochearnhead. The Munros and Corbetts locally provide good walking and climbing and those include Ben Vorlich and Stuc 'a Chroin and above Killin, the Lawers range of mountains.
