Stairwaddie Croft
Stairwaddie Croft is a small (2 acre) holding situated in peaceful rural surroundings just over a mile north east from the historic town of Stromness, Orkney, and the port for the ferry from Scrabster.
Our house is at one end of the holding and the cottage is at the other end. In between are our animals and, depending on the time of year, their young. We also have our own hens and can let you have the freshest of fresh eggs. The holding is surrounded by open meadows with an abundance of bird life.
Whilst you will have to visit the sea cliffs at Yesnaby or Marwick Head to see puffins, you should be able to see hen harriers, ravens, snipe and owls from the cottage. Many breeding pairs of lapwings and curlews nest in the field opposite. It is also ideally placed to see many Autumn migrating birds, huge skeins of geese etc.
Stairwaddie Croft is the perfect place to experience a totally different holiday - a beautiful, tranquil environment with plenty to see and do if that is what you want.
Jenny is a qualified Orkney Guide (member of the Scottish Tourist Guide Association) and is happy to help you make the most of your time in Orkney.
