From Glasgow, Bute is a remarkably accessible island, the mainland rail ferry terminal at Wemyss Bay is a short train journey from Glasgow Central. This is the main destination point from south Britain and various parts of Scotland - from Wemyss Bay to Rothesay terminal takes a mere 30 minutes by car/passenger ferry. For motorists an alternative way to the Isle of Bute is by the attractive scenic route via Loch Lomond (A82) to the village of Colintraive in Argyll. Ferry crossing 5 minutes.
