Bishop Cottage

Welcome to Bishop Cottage, a delightful 200 year-old, listed cottage in the centre of Ceres The most attractive village in Scotland, according to George Scott-Moncrieff.
Bishop cottage is situated high on the bank on the side of the Ceres Burn, and looks west across the 17th century Bishops Bridge to the park and village green beyond. It is a traditional Scottish one-and-a-half storey town house, with thick walls and a slate roof. Inside, however, it has been completely refurbished to provide the very best of modern accommodation. Each room has been furnished to a very high standard. Settees and beds are new and very comfortable, while many other pieces are antique.
On the ground floor the sitting room is warm and comfortable. The central heating is complemented by a living flame gas fire, which is easy to light and warms up quickly. The kitchen-dining room has all the appliances one could wish for, and there is plenty of room for a good-sized table and chairs.
Upstairs the furnished mezzanine landing leads to a private patio and a well stocked terraced garden. From the top of the garden one can see over the houses to the village and countryside beyond.
On the assumption that a good nights rest is a very important part of any holiday, the double bedroom has a Hypnos Supreme bed, and the second bedroom has twin Slumberland Mistral beds.
The bathroom is fully tiled, with a shower over the bath. A selection of Gilchrist and Soames toiletries are provided for our guests.
A complementary hamper awaits you. It will contain a bottle of fine wine, and a tasteful selection of Scottish shortbread, fresh coffee, tea, milk, cereals, some locally baked bread, and other useful items sufficient to prepare a light supper or breakfast
Ceres owes its charm to its burn, the old bridge, and the adjacent village green and park. Here on the last Saturday in June an annual fair and Highland Games have been held since the 14th century. The Fife Folk museum, an antique shop and the 200-year-old Ceres Inn are all within 150 yards of the cottage. The village also supports another good hotel, a general store and Post Office, a butcher, and the famous Griselda Hill (Wemyss) pottery.
Ceres lies in the Howe (or hollow) of Fife, a prime agricultural area of rolling fields and low hills bisected by the River Eden, into which the Ceres Burn flows. It is dotted with small villages many of which have conservation area status.
Ceres is nine miles from the university town of St.Andrews with its golf courses, beaches, harbour, ancient buildings, and speciality shops, and around a dozen miles from the picturesque fishing villages of Anstruther, St. Monans, Pittenweem and Crail. On the outskirts of the village are the Hill of Tarvit Mansion House, and Scots Tarvit tower, and a little to the West is Falkland Palace (all owned by the National Trust for Scotland). Edinburgh is just over 40 miles to the south, and Pitlochry, in the heart of the Highlands, about 50 miles north.
