Bank Cottage, Barhill

The Victorian bank cottage is in a rural village, close to the Duisk River. The Galloway Forest Park, Southern Uplands Way, Girvan harbour and Turnberry are short journeys away. A former Bank of Scotland, built in 1873, it has been sympathetically restored to its former glory. A building of architectural interest designed to the highest standards of that era and of the local vernacular. The cottage has a double fronted entrance into a large public room containing a kitchen-dining and living area containing a three quarter bed settee and original Victorian fireplace. An archway leads through to a WC with wash hand basin and utility space. The main bedroom has a double bed, wardrobe, dresser, and a second open Victorian fireplace. The main bathroom contains a bath, shower hand set, wash hand basin and WC.
Within a two minute walk, are the local shop, bar and hotel. At the bridge over 'Cross Water' is trail sign to 'The Martyrs' tomb', a memorial from the "killing Times" of 1638-88. The village bowling-green, Duisk River, picnic tables and a children's play area are a few minutes to the east of the cottage. Along the Duisk River is Kildonan, an imposing Edwardian-style manor. A road by the cottage leads to the railway station which is convenient for trips to Girvan, Irvine (Isle of Arran ferry), Ayr, Prestwick, Glasgow and Stranraer.
