Coel Na Mara, meaning sound of the sea in Gaelic, offers the best of both worlds. Attractively situated in peaceful surroundings overlooking the pier and voe in Mid Yell and a stones throw from a sandy beach, it is within easy walking distance of the local shop, post office, pub, boating club and modern leisure centre/swimming pool.
The property was built in 1974 and has recently been redecorated and newly furnished. It benefits from double glazing and electric storage heating and all linen, crockery and utensils are provided. Accommodation comprises one twin and one double bedroom, livingroom with colour TV, DVD player and stereo, dining kitchen with automatic washer/dryer, fridge freezer, kettle, toaster, cooker and microwave and bathroom with over bath shower.
Centrally situated on the island of Yell, it makes an ideal base for exploring the Mainland, Unst and Fetlar which are easily reached by frequent and inexpensive vehicle ferry services. Yell itself has much to offer too, whether you are a wildlife enthusiast, birdwatcher, walker or just want to enjoy some solitude and get away from it all. The island is blessed with modern services and transport infrastructure yet retains a strong sense of tradition and community spirit. Nowhere is this more evident than at the various social and community events held throughout the year.
Spring and summer are our busy times when the long days can be spent exploring the island and evenings watching the sun set over the village, local fishermen landing their catch at the pier or an otter or two if you are lucky. We however offer discounted rates in the winter months when the short days, which can throw anything up from spectacular storms to picture postcard winter scenes, are livened by events such as the Cullivoe Up Helly Aa and traditional New Year celebrations which will give you a true taste of Yell hospitality.
