Ravenstone Mains Cottage - Images
At Ravenstone Cottages we aim to provide a family friendly holiday with an atmosphere that offers Mum and Dad a chance to unwind and children the chance to explore and have adventures.
As parents ourselves we understand what we want from a holiday, so we aim to try to provide that for you. What we can offer you here:
1. James' fantastic menu that offers you a chance to dine in, without cooking or washing up.
2. Baby-sitting service to let you go out for a meal or movie while we take care of the children. We both have full Disclosures for inspection.
3. Pamper yourself by booking a spa treatment with our local therapist, Linzi Brown. Linzi was the Spa manager at Turnbury Resort in Ayrshire and offers a wonderful range of relaxing treatments delivered in your cottage.
Ravenstone Mains: Country cottage kitchen with wood stove plus modcons like dishwasher and microwave. The kitchen is kitted out well and we supply children's crockery and a highchair. If you don't feel like cooking, we have a catering option where we deliver to your door.
Menu options include local crab and lobster platters, thin crust Italian pizzas and traditional roast lunches. On a sunny day you can dine al fresco - and there's no washing up either.
Ravenstone Mains Cotage twin room has a view over the courtyard garden, complete with small pond - watch closely for newts & frogs. The window is framed by a rambling pink rose (in the summer) and sweetly smelling viburnum (in the winter & spring). For young ones, there's a stash of toys and books
in the cupboard.
Swashbuckling adventures aplenty can be had by young would-be pirates on our homemade pirate ship. Older children can scramble up the climbing wall, while younger ones can play below decks. Set within the sight lines of the picnic table, yohohos can be heard in the distance while Mum and Dad sip their G & Ts - Gingerbeer and Tonic that is!
Enjoy your very own picnic in the sunshire at our large slate table with durable teak chairs. Relax with your favourite book in the sunshine and listen to the sounds of birdsong and not much else at all.
If you want to hear the sound of waves, there's several great, uncrowded beaches within short drives of Ravenstone.
Discover Rigg Bay beach with its low flat sandy beach, ridged mud flats at low tide and rock pools galore - head for Garlieston and park in Galloway House Estate.
Or drive through St Medan's Golf Course at Monreith to find a lovely sandy beach with breezy waves and cliffs to scramble up for spectacular views to the Isle of Man, Mull of Galloway and Lake District, on a clear day.
Ravenstone Stables: Living room with open window through to kitchen. Antique refurbished chairs and a large comfy sofa offer plenty of seating around the French enamelled wood stove.
Through the large picture window is a view through the roses to our garden.
We love gardening and are creating an environment that is playful while being artistic and offering something for children, adults and the wildlife! The pond is hidden at the height of summer from the table view, and can be 'found' by exploring through the gunnera bog and willow arch swing.
Ravenstone Stables: The kitchen here features a five ring gas hob, electric cooker, glass brick feature, microwave, large fridge/freezer, washing machine and double doors out to the garden.
We enjoy cooking and try to ensure that guests will find more than just the basics when they stay at Ravenstone. And if there's anything you can't find, we'll happily raid our own kitchenware to provide it.
If you fancy a night out, we can provide a babysitting service.
There's great cycling here at Ravenstone - quiet roads with coastal views and few really steep hills.
If you like a real challenge you can complete one of the Seven Stanes trails at Kirroughtree Forestry Park just outside Newton Stewart.
No summer holiday is complete without a good dig in the sand and here at Ravenstone you're spoilt for choice - Rigg Bay beach features in this picture.
Visit Rigg Bay beach near Garlieston. Sandy beach with shallow water when the tide is in and rock pools and rippled mud flats when the tide is out. Or Garlieston beach itself. Or there's Monreith Beach or one in Port William, that's great for launching kayaks.
Fancy some wild mushrooms for tea? Look out for local expert Mark William's occasional foraging tuition sessions.
Galloway Activity Centre at Loch Ken is only 45 minutes from Ravenstone and offers a whole host of activities for the whole family.
Even our 5-year old was able to climb most of their 25m climbing wall and loved the exiliration of the zip wire to get down! There's sailing, kayaking, laserquest and much more.
Children enjoy watching our Welsumner and Maran hens free range around the garden. They are currently joined by our Indian Runner Duck, Maid Marion and we also have a Burmese cat, Merlin.
Whether its butterflies and buzzards by day or owls by night, there is plenty of wildlife to be seen here at Ravenstone. Deer, pheasant and a multitude of wild birds are all regular visitors to the garden - keep your eyes peeled.
Cream of Galloway is a firm family favourite - there's plenty to do inside and out, and of course there's so many flavours of ice cream to try you can easily go more than once!
