Uig Bay Caravan & Campsite

Uig is a well established large area of level hard standing and both level and gently sloping grassy areas. It was first opened in 1969 but all facilities were renewed in 2000 when we took over the site. It is a family run site and we have past experience of camping ourselves so we have aimed to provide what we wanted from a camp site. Showers by push button-no tokens or coins needed and all the laundry/washing/dishwashing facilities are housed under one roof in the purpose built block. The chemical disposal is behind the shower block. Electric hook ups are available in the hard standing and most of the grassy areas, so that access is possible for tents as well as caravans and motor homes.
There are picnic areas on the campsite and seating at the beach side to to just sit and enjoy the beautiful views and make the most of the peace and quiet, and with the only regular traffic the ferry to the Outer Isles and the fishing boats passing in front of the campsite, it is very peaceful. After seven years we still haven't tired of watching the sun go down. The scenery changes constantly all through the day so we can guarantee you will never be bored with the view.
Within 2 minutes walk there are facilities in Uig (bar/restaurant, petrol station/shop with camping gas available, cafe, pottery, gist shops, brewery and ferry terminal). Second bar/restaurant, post office/grocers and hotel within 2 miles. Also children's play area and football/shinty pitch within local park approximately 1 mile away.
Stunning scenery all around, views over to Waternish. From the viewpoint 2 miles up the road you can see over to the Outer Isles and some of the most stunning sunsets on Skye. There is plentiful wildlife-eagles, corncrakes, basking sharks, gannets, seals, buzzards, curlew are regular visitors-we even had an otter come strolling down the campsite one day! If you are really lucky he might entertain you with his antics playing in the water. Dolphins have alos visited the Bay in recent years, and Minke whales can be seen in the Minch.
Further afield there are numerous walks available, with easy access to the beautiful Quiraing, and for the more adventurous the Trotternish Ridge. Slightly easier but will still with the reward of fantastic views is Idrigill Point, where you can see right over to the Western Isles to one side of you or to the Cuillins on the other. The Fairy Glen also offers spectacular scenery without trekking for miles. Cycle hire also available. For more adventurous there are facilities locally for water sports at Whitwaves in Linicro. The site serves as an excellent base for exploring the North End of Skye, as a stop off for visiting the Outer Isles or a good place to spend a relaxing few days away from the hustle and bustle to recharge your batteries.
