Aurora Bed and Breakfast - Images
The following photos give a brief view as to who, where & what we do at Aurora Bed and Breakfast. For a much more detailed look please view our own dedicated website with 120+ photographs - all taken by Ann, including a gallery of larger pictures.
Shieldaig is the jewel in the Torridon / Wester Ross / Highland crown to many, hope we can show you why!
Shieldaig is a very pretty village & working community nestled amongst the Torridon mountains looking up Loch Torridon. A rival to Plockton in setting & beauty and close to Applecross.
There are 2 levels to the village - the lower level which is the conservation area in this photo - and the upper level (which was sea level millions of years ago) the next photo. The pub is about a 5 minute walk from us.
This is Aurora Bed and Breakfast & we have a commanding view from the top of the village. We enjoy views up the loch & out to sea.
On a clear day we can see the mountains on Harris - the Outer Hebrides. We also get a good view from the 1st floor guests living room of Shieldaig Island - National Trust. The island currently has sea-eagles roosting at night, a heronry and the rocks provide a sunbathing area for the seals.
A sunset in May enjoyed from the first floor guest living room. In June the sun sets in the gap & it remains light until midnight.
Every day the sun shines, we get a different fabulous sunset. The TV rarely gets watched when this is the natural scene outside.
We have large en-suite bedrooms with pocket sprung, comfortable super-king sized beds. Nature inspired contemporary style & colours all with great views.
Both Applecross & Torridon bedrooms have zip & link beds that convert between singles or superking sized beds. These rooms can therefore be used flexibly as double, twin or triple accommodation. Skye room has a Vi-Spring King sized bed.
Please be aware we have no TV's in the bedrooms. There is a large flat screen TV in the upstairs guest's lounge where we can get a good satellite signal - due to the mountains our terrestrial signal is permanent snow!
All 3 bedrooms are en-suite, shower rooms. The bathrooms are light, clean and sparkling. They have showers, toilet, washbasin and heated towel rails. Fluffy white towels and complementary hand made soaps.
We clean "green" & use no chemicals - preferring e-cloths, water & elbow grease. Any products we use now are completely natural such as bicarbonate of soda, white vinegar, hydrogen peroxide & lemon juice.
The first floor living room is exclusively for our guests. Chill out or enjoy weather, sunsets and nature watching around the loch or surrounding mountains that the 270 degree elevated views offer.
Soft comfortable sofas and task lighting, plentiful reading material of local & worldwide interest; chose a jigsaw or game. Books, folders of information & reference material to hand, along with bi & monocular. There is also a large flat screen TV with satellite signal, video and DVD players.
New in 2010 - a wood burning stove.
Our contemporary spacious dining room, built in 2008, takes advantage of views of the sea & mountains through the floor to ceiling glazing.
Guests enjoy breakfasts here, share stories of their travels & even make new friends. Part of our friendly, welcoming, relaxed approach.
The space outside the dining area is decked for guests to enjoy the sunny weather.
Enjoy a bottle of your own wine, breathe the really clean air and chill out in the peace & quiet of your idyllic surroundings outside.
The stunning views from Loch Clair - a walk we recommend & give directions to in Glen Torridon.
We love the plentiful walks of all types in this area and enjoy tailoring our suggestions to suit guests. There are low level coastal walks, penninsula's, lochside or the peaks & ridges of Munro's & Corbetts.
On your way to the Torridon Glen you will pass Liathach. This was a stunning day in February, great lower level walking conditions or mountaineering.
Liathach is one of the more challanging Munro's the Torridon's have to offer. We get a dusting of snow on the tops from October to May.
How about a change for breakfast?
Smoked salmon & crowdie (scottish cream cheese). The salmon is from Loch Torridon Smokehouse & smoked in the village, our dairy produce is from West Highland dairy.
You can chose exactly what you would like for breakfast & how you like it cooked - from our cook-to-order menu. Pre-order the night before or in the morning.
Bed and breakfast, is after all, about a good comfortable bed and a jolly good breakfast.
Another sunny day, a different beautiful sunset. Around the longest day it can still be light at midnight.
Come and restore your sense of well-being & see life a different way.
