Glen Loy Lodge is an 8 bed-roomed former hunting lodge dating from the 1920’s. All rooms are en suite and furnished comfortably. The lodge is situated in a wonderfully scenic and peaceful location only 7 miles from the centre of Fort William at the entrance to Glen Loy. Its position on the western side of the Caledonian Canal affords spectacular views over Aonach Mor and the Nevis Range. The Lodge retains many original features including hipped ceilings and a wood fired stove, but benefits from modern conveniences such as en suite showers, central heating and satellite TV. All rooms are en suite and furnished comfortably with care taken to enhance period details with suitable decoration and furnishings. The lodge is situated in a wonderfully scenic and peaceful location only 7 miles from the centre of Fort William at the entrance to Glen Loy. The dining room and sunroom enjoy views over the garden to the mountains beyond, and for days of inclement weather there is a cosy residents’ lounge with a multi-fuel stove and a wide range of books and games.

We provide a full home-cooked breakfast including freshly made porridge and plenty of locally sourced fresh produce. We will be happy to give advice on where to eat locally. There is a wide range of places to eat within a relatively short distance as Fort William is only 7 miles away and Spean Bridge a similar distance in the opposite direction. There is plenty for all tastes from Michelin starred restaurants to cosy pubs and even the humble chip shop.

The River Loy, adjacent to the Lodge, flows through a beautiful wooded glen with mountains rising on either side to almost 800m. At the head of the glen is a remarkable stand of ancient Caledonian pine wood. There are waymarked paths within easy walking distance through the Erracht oak woods to the north and through Glen Loy Forest to the south, affording spectacular views along the Great Glen towards Loch Linnhe. The Lodge lies within a few hundred metres of the Caledonian Canal and the Great Glen Way, which can be accessed via Gairlochy to the north or Neptune’s staircase at Banavie to the south, both 4 miles away. Neptune’s Staircase is a series of 8 locks bringing boats up from sea level at Loch Linnhe. Loch Arkaig and the pretty Chia-aig Falls are a short drive or pleasant cycle away. Further along the loch chequered skipper and pearl bordered fritillary can be seen at the butterfly reserve at Allt Mhuic.

Outdoor activities available in the area include walking, climbing, skiing, canoeing, sea kayaking, mountain biking, and of course, wildlife watching. Other attractions include Ben Nevis, the Ardnamurchan peninsula, beautiful beaches at Arisaig and Morar, boat trips to the Small Isles, Glenfinnan Monument and Viaduct, the Hogwart’s Express, the Parallel Roads at Glen Roy and the Commando Monument at Spean Bridge.
