Croys Lodge
Welcome to Croys Lodge!
Nestling in the woods in the grounds of Croys House, Croys Lodge is a perfect retreat for that get-away-from-it-all break you’ve always promised yourself!
Recently renovated, the lodge provides comfortable self-catering accommodation for up to 6 people, with 3 bedrooms, cosy lounge, large kitchen/dining area, 2 bathrooms and full central heating.
Just up the driveway is Croys House itself, an elegant Georgian House dating from the 18th century (and featured in the November 2004 issue of 'Period House’, and also in ‘Scotland on Sunday’) where Bed and Breakfast accommodation is also offered.
The house is part Georgian and part Victorian, and is situated in an elevated position in the Urr Valley in the Dumfries and Galloway region of south west Scotland.
Run by Pat and Alan Withall, the property is bounded on the southern side by the River Urr. Through time they intend to open the river, which was fished in days gone by, but hasn’t been touched for several years. It is known that the upper reaches yield salmon as well as sea trout and brown trout.
The house and lodge lie in 35 acres of parkland and gardens, and the lodge offers expansive views over the neighbouring countryside.
Pat is an excellent cook, and uses produce from the gardens to provide an exquisite evening meal, which is available to Lodge guests (at extra cost) on request (a vegetarian option is also available if required).
Lodge guests are invited to explore the gardens, which boast walls festooned with wisteria, clematis, Virginia creeper and honeysuckle.
During the spring and early summer the grounds are carpeted with snowdrops, daffodils and bluebells and the various seating areas will tempt guests to spend many leisurely hours relaxing in this tranquil and most beautiful location.
Pat and Alan also rear rare breeds of sheep, cattle and pigs including Belted Galloway cows and Icelandic, Shetland, Jacob, Castlemilk Morit and Ryland sheep.
Pedigree Tamworth pigs are special treasures. They also use Norwegian Fiord horses and a Dales pony for carriage driving.
The Lodge is ideally positioned, being just off the main Euroroute to the Irish ferry and yet in a peaceful contryside location untroubled by traffic noise. Castle Douglas, Scotland's food town, is only 3 miles away, and the famous Threave Gardens are also close. Nearby Loch Ken offers a varied range of watersports and fishing, and the new ‘7Stanes’ cycle trails are only a short distance away. And for the golfers, Southerness golf course is only 20 minutes away.
