Rowan Cottage, self catering cottage is located on the North shores of Loch Etive in an area of outstanding natural beauty - summer or winter the scenery around the house is magnificent . It is just as suitable for two people seeking peace and privacy as it is for family holidays for all seasons.
Rowan Cottage is a spacious, modern bungalow set in a large garden enjoying views of Ben Lora and only a few minutes walk from the shores of Loch Etive (which really is one of Argyll's treasures).
Rowan Cottage is situated in the lovely coastal village of North Connel, 7 miles from Oban. Nearby Connel is a busy small village east of Oban on the A85. It has a shop, Post Office, bars and restaurants as well as bus and train links to Oban.
There is easy access from here to Oban and the islands as well as Fort William and Glencoe.
Rowan Cottage is equipped with everything you need for a perfect holiday, being spacious, light and very well equipped.
All the furniture and bedding are of excellent quality - modern and co-ordinated. Rowan Cottage has gas central heating with each room being individually controlled. There is also a feature multi-fuel stove in the living room.
The main bedroom has an en-suite shower room. The kitchen is fully fitted with dishwasher, washing machine, dishwasher, microwave, gas hob and electric oven.
Six people can be seated in comfort in the dining room for formal meals, whilst the conservatory has a pine table for breakfasting.
The lounge is at the front of the house and has large patio doors opening out to a conservatory and then to a paved patio with large outdoor table and parasol.
From the patio Rowan Cottage enjoys a view of Ben Lora. It is situated two miles east of Connel Bridge and the celebrated Falls of Lora, which are five miles from Oban.
Rowan Cottage has a wonderful situation facing due south above Loch Etive - a sea loch which extends eastwards from the Firth of Lorne, then northwards towards Glencoe. It is one of Scotland’s most beautiful, and (towards the north) most remote lochs.
Rowan Cottage lounge is a large, airy room with ample seating for six people, fully centrally heated with a log burning stove for that cosy welcoming glow. From the bay window, the summit of Beinn Lora can be seen.
The large lounge with multi-fuel burning stove is well-equipped with TV, DVD, stereo. There is a selection of media to choose from, as well as books and games. A Clavinova electric piano is provided for those with a musical bent.
The master bedroom has antiqued pine furniture with two double fitted wardrobes. It has an ensuite with electric shower, WC, wash hand basin, shaver socket and radiator.
A quality double bed with bedside cabinets with clock radios, reading lights and a hairdrier is provided. A chest of drawers gives extra storage. A travel cot with sheets and quilt, a high chair are stored here also, should you require them. The art work is all original. This is a comfortable rosy haven at the rear of Rowan Cottage to awaken in with little but birdsong to disturb you!
A second double bedroom is situated to the front, looking towards Beinn Lora. It is painted in robin's egg blue and has a cheerful sunny aspect.
The second double bedroom is furnished with a quality double bed and has two double fitted wardrobes with shelving. Original art work adorns the walls. It has a large radiator. Bedside lights and a hairdrier are provided. From this window, deer can sometimes be spotted foraging at the edge of the woods in the early morning! Very restful!
The third bedroom is a delightful airy room with twin single beds, radiator and a double wardrobe.
This room has ample space and storage.The two quality single beds have a bedside cabinet with shared bedside light. A large chest of drawers gives extra provision for clothing, and a selection of books and toys are provided for the children to play with. This room adjoins the family bathroom.
Dining Room. A sunny room with a dramatic colour scheme comes into its own at night with a special meal served at the polished table.
The dining room seats six easily. A Welsh dresser has storage space whilst warmth is provided by a radiator.Plenty of glassware, JoLoMo tablemats, original artwork and subtle lighting combine to give this room a delightful artistic ambience, very conduicive to good conversation whilst you are on holiday.
The conservatory has an open outlook to the garden and then to Moss road. It has double doors leading to the paved and fenced patio.
During the day, this is a wonderful place to have breakfast at the circular pine table, or relax in the upholstered cane furniture to read. A ceiling fan with variable speeds allows temperature regulation should the sun insist on shining! As evening falls, wall lighting or spot lights give a choice of mood. There are two radiators for cooler nights. Outside on the patio is a substantial circular dining table and parasol, as well as a quality barbeque for al fresco dining. In the garage are 4 mountain bikes for the use of guests. An outside tap and car-washing kit is provided should you feel up to washing your vehicle!
The kitchen is of modern design and is well equipped for proper cookery, should you wish to do this on holiday!
The kitchen is fully fitted with gas hob, electric oven, washing machine, tumble drier, fridge/ freeze,integrated dishwasher, microwave, kettle,coffe maker, double sized toaster, toasted sandwich maker, first aid kit , fire extinguishers and all crockery anf silverware. A full set of quality pots and cooking utensils are provided as well as a bottle of wine to welcome you to Rowan Cottage!There is an extractor fan and Xpelair fan and towels are provided. Dyson vacuum, mops, cleaning fluids, dishwasher tablets, detergent etc are all supplied, but you bring the food!
Family Bathroom is extremely spacious and has an extractor fan and a window to the rear of the cottage.
The family bathroom has a corner bath, electric shower cubicle, bidet and WC. Non- slip flooring gives extra peace of mind, whilst the bathroom is heated with a radiator. There is a shaving point and light at the wash hand basin and plenty of towel rails. There are storage sheves for towels and washbags and a set of bathroom scales live under the wooden chair. A set of 6 bathtowel and 6 handtowels are included in the price. Original art work brightens the view.
The spectacular Falls of Lora on Loch Etive are crossed as you make your way to Rowan Cottage.
The Falls of Lora run directly below Connel Bridge and are in evidence twice daily as the tide flows in and out of this sea loch, causing fast flowing whitewater in the loch.
Roe deer venture out of the woods in the winter.
An abundance of wildlife can be seen in the area around Rowan Cottage. These roe deer were photographed in winter, but have been seen in the summer months too. Geese, hawks, owls and falcons as well as a multiplicity of garden birds are resident in this area. Twitchers will be spoiled for choice!
Gone Fishing! Loch Etive has rich fishing grounds . Try for spurdog and mackerel in the summer.The shore is easily accessed after a very short walk by the beautiful lochside.
As well as fishing, Rowan Cottage is well placed for walkers, cyclists and climbers, with quiet flat roads or mountainous climbs easily accessed. The trail to the top of Beinn Lora is reached 1mile from Rowan Cottage, with parking at the foot of the hill.

A good number of training boats arrive in Oban during the summer months and add to the charm of this wonderful resort. Nearer to Rowan Cottage, Tralee Bay offers a long sandy beach which can be reached through the caravan park, or else by a signposted walk in Benderloch village, 1 mile from Rowan Cottage.

Rowan Cottage is situated in an area of astounding natural beauty, which changes with the seasons, but always gives pleasure. For lively bars, restaurants or shops, it is a short 15 minute drive into Oban, 7miles away. Or visit the Sealife Centre and watch seals and marvel at the collection of sea creatures on display. On a wet day, visit the Hollow Mountain of Ben Cruachan,10 miles away. You can journey deep inside to the heart of the mountain to see the amazing power of hydro electricity being created! Or pay a visit to Inverawe Smokehouse to sample the wonderful smoked salmon. You will have plenty to do if you visit Rowan Cottage!
