Allonby Cottage, Kippford - Getting There

Getting there from the Information Centre

Turn right from the Visit Information Centre in Castle Douglas onto the High Street, At the roundabout take the 2nd exit onto Oakwell Road – A745 (signposted Dalbeattie). Travel for 5 miles along A745 until you reach traffic lights. Turn left on to A711 and cross narrow bridge. After ½ mile turn right onto A710 (signposted Solway Coast). After 3 miles turn right at Barnbarroch Pottery in to Kippford. Enter the village and drive along the front passing the Yacht Club and Anchor Pub. Slow down at The Anchor and Allonby is the cottage immediately before the lifeboat station. Park outside or in the spaces just along the front.

Getting There by Car

From South via M6, merge onto A75. At roundabout take 2nd exit onto Dumfries ring road. Follow A75 over a further 4 roundabouts, at 5th roundabout take the 1st left towards Cargenbridge. At next junction turn right onto A711 towards Dalbeattie. Entering Dalbeattie continue forward onto John Street. At crossroads turn left onto A710 (signposted Solway Coast) - Kippford is 3 miles from Dalbeattie. Turn right at pottery up the hill into Kippford. Allonby Cottage is located on the seafront past the Anchor Hotel.
From North via A74, leave A74 at junction 15, then at roundabout take 3rd exit onto A701 towards Dumfries. At Dumfries ring road (A75) take 3rd exit towards Stranraer. Follow A75 over a further 2 roundabouts - at 3rd roundabout take 1st left towards Cargenbridge. (Then as above)

Getting There by Railway

DUMFRIES is the nearest rail station. From the station you can either take a taxi to Kippford or use public transport. There is a local bus service to Dumfries Bus Station where you can take the 372 service to Kippford. The service runs approximately every two hours, but you should check at www.stagecoachbus.com first.

Getting there by Aeroplane

Both GLASGOW and EDINBURGH are 90 minutes from Allonby. PRESTWICK is closer at 60 minutes. For all these airports you would be best to fly in, hire a car and then enjoy the drive down to the coast. The A701 from Edinburgh is a particularly good drive down to Moffat and then across to Kippford!

Getting There by Ferry

Allonby Cottage is 90 minutes from Cairnryan for ferry connections to Ireland.
