The Sheiling - 8 Battlehill, Auldearn

The ‘Sheiling’ is a lovely modern, fully equipped 3-bedroom bungalow with a bright sunny conservatory set in the pretty and quiet village of Auldearn. The bungalow can sleep a maximum of 6 people. The village is steeped in history and the property looks out over the famous and important battle hill where the Covenanters and the Royalists fought in the battle of Auldearn in 1645.
The village of Auldearn lies just 2 miles east of Nairn, which is a lovely seaside town famous for its fine, clean beaches and championship standard golf courses.
The ‘Sheiling’ is open all year and the rooms are all bright and airy. There are 2 double bedrooms both with king size beds, one with en-suite, as well as 1 twin room. All facilities are on one level and there is a safe enclosed garden with views over the countryside and the Moray Firth in the distance. Bed linen and towels are included as well as all utilities. The kitchen/diner is well equipped and offers fine views for dining. A travel cot is available if needed as well as a highchair and baby changing facilities. The ‘Sheiling’ has a no smoking policy throughout. In the village there is a small shop cum post office as well as two pubs that offer very good bar food as well as evening and lunchtime meals which can both be recommended. There is a footpath to allow you to walk to Nairn if you are feeling fit or you could cycle. There is ample parking at the Sheiling as well as off-street parking and the use of a garage for storage.
The seaside town of Nairn has stunning scenery all around, a lovely promenade for a leisurely stroll, a variety of wildlife including the rare Moray Firth bottlenose dolphins sometimes seen, where you can book boat trips from Nairn harbour to try and spot them. There are plenty of places to eat and there is an array of restaurants, coffee shops, take-away including pizza, Fish & Chips, Chinese ad Indian food as well as traditional Scottish menus. The Hotels in and around the towns West End of Nairn such as the Claymore House and Golf View Hotel with its wonderful sea views, give excellent choice and offer excellent dishes using local produce. There is also a Safeway store in town and a Co-op as well a 24-hour 7-days a week Tesco Superstore catering for everything from groceries, to clothes, electrical items, homeware. It is located in the retail park just outside Inverness approximately 18 miles away (25-30) minute drive by car.
A big attraction in Nairn every year is the ‘Nairn Highland Games’ held on the Links overlooking the beachfront. This year it is on the 18th August 2007. The links also has for children, crazy golf, and a putting green, play park and a paddling pool and the main leisure centre with swimming pool is just a few minutes away.
From Auldearn, you are ideally situated to explore further a field such as the Capital of the Highlands, Inverness, 20 miles away, Loch Ness, Cawdor Castle a 14th Century home of the Thanes of Cawdor which is open May to October. Brodie Castle and Brodie Countryfare on the A96 just a 10-minute drive from Auldearn.
