The town and surrounding area retains an unspoilt charm and you are guaranteed a warm welcome from the friendly locals. Kirkcudbright is known as the Artists’ Town because of its artistic connections and there are several galleries and exhibitions in the Town Hall and Tolbooth Gallery which you can browse. There is also a good range of shops and several excellent restaurants, traditional pubs and cosy cafés as well as tennis courts, a golf course, a bowling green and a swimming pool. Nearby, the delightful surrounding countryside and beaches provide fantastic walking and wildlife-watching opportunities – birdwatchers particularly won’t want to miss the Caerlaverock Reserve and the Galloway Red Kite Trail.
