Craigshall Cottage is a little different as Scottish holiday cottages go. Completely refurbished in 2007, it has been designed to be carbon neutral in use. It has solar panels to provide domestic hot water and is powered by hydro electricity. Low energy light bulbs and 'A' rated appliances minimise the use of electricity. The decor is modern and stylish.

The conservatory means you can enjoy alfresco dining even when the weather is less than ideal.
This large area is great for young kids to play or to sit and watch the world go by! It has sustainable bamboo flooring and has a sofa plus easy chair. There's also an cafe style table and chairs should you wish to dine semi alfresco.
The luxury batchroom features twin sinks, a powershower in a large, separate, rugby player sized enclosure as well as a full sized bath and loo. The room has a heated (ajustable) towel rail and a separate fan heater.
When we go away, we always judge a place by it's bathroom and we wanted to make sure visitors at Craigshall Cottage would not be disapointed. The powershower can blast you at full mains pressure or drizzle you in fine 'champagne' spray if you prefer. If you like to soak in a hot bath, you can do so guilt free knowing the sun (or hydro electricity) heated your water!
The Twin Room can sleep up to four people. Each single bed has a full sized underbead that can be set up in this large bedroom.
We have had four adults, two children and two dogs stay with us.

The Master Bedroom features a double bed and easy chair and has multiple lighting options so you can setup to read or relax as you please.
The bedroom has an exterior door that opens to a private decked area with a cafe table and two chairs. Perfect for morning coffee and a little peace and quiet!
The village pub is walking distance (500 yards/meters) from the cottage, but if you do decide to cook, you'll find everything you need in the open plan galley kitchen.
When designing the interior of Craigshall Cottage, we kept in mind the best bits of self catering accommodation we have visited in the past. One of our favourite had the kitchen integrated into the living space so that 'chef for the day' could still chat with people relaxing in the lounge or sitting at the dining table. Your galley kitchen includes ceramic hob, fan oven, microwave, steamer, toaster, kettle, fridge, freezer and dishwasher. All 'A' ramed, all new in 2007. A Bosch front loading washing machine and tumble dryer are in the utility room so you are not disturbed by noise!
The Lounge seats six comfortable with two 2 seat leather sofas and two high back easy chairs with foot stools. Centre stage is the log burning stove.
The entertainment system consists of a 19" flat panel TV, DVD player, Sky TV (freeview channels) and a Bluetooth enabled Sony HiFi that can stream music from iPod or other MP3 player as well as Bluetooth enabled PCs and phones. We provide logs for the log burner.
Here's a view of the parking and the paddock beyond. Further afield is Auchencairn Bay where you can walk without crossing any roads!
There's plenty of space to park two or three cars as well as a boat on a trailer or a horse box. From your front door you can walk for miles without crossing a road. The parking and garden are fully enclosed.

There is a wonderful walk that you can do from your front door that takes you across the head of Auchencairn Bay to Old Torr, Red Ha'en beach and on to Torr Point. Full details are available by following the link below.
The cottage has a number of photographic prints by Allan Wright adorning the walls as well as a number of other works by local artists.
Allan is a local photographer who produces books and other publications of his photos from all over Scotland and other parts of the world. All the photographs at Craigshall Cottage are of the local area and can visited during your stay with us.

You can sit in the garden of walk through your single gate to the paddock and beyond.
There are lots of very fine walks which start through this gate. Remember to bring your wellies as you'll have to cross a wee burn (stream) though!

The most important factor for us in referbishing Craigshall Cottage was to make as low an environmental impact as possible. We installed solar water heating, sustainable bamboo flooring, low-energy lighting and recycling bins.
In addition, you can heat the cottage entirely with the wood burning stove and even cook on it if you wish! Should you decide to use the 'mod cons' such as the electric fan oven, ceramic hob or towl rail, you have a minimal impact since the electricity used is on Scottish Hydro's Green (RSPB) tariff. We supply logs for the log burner and will deal with all your recycling for you - you just separate it and we'll do the rest in our LPG powered truck!
