Discover Glen Lyon’s majestic beauty and soak up the peace and tranquillity at the four star Ben Lawers Bunkhouse.

In Scotland’s longest glen, surrounded by unspoilt landscape, this is the perfect location for hill walking and wildlife watching.

You can find us in the historic hamlet of Milton Eonan – recommended as top choice for accommodation in West Perthshire, Lonley Planet Great Britain, 2007.

The single-storey stone cottage is just metres away from the River Lyon and a dramatic waterfall. Views of ancient Caledonian pine forest and rising hills complete the picture.

This cosy accommodation has six comfortable bunks; a fully equipped kitchen; bathroom & shower; common room with board games, satellite television, wood burning stove; drying facilities.

By prior arrangement, we will be happy to provide a full Scottish breakfast, packed lunches, or a delicious supper - all are homemade and use local ingredients, where possible. Our menus are seasonal and we are happy to cater for vegans and vegetarians.

Our hostel is the only budget accommodation available in the area – you may want to walk to Rannoch by old drove road or climb some of the many Munro hills nearby, including Ben Lawers.

Keep a look out for the local wildlife - wild red deer, red squirrels, herons and eagles, to name just a few.

Salmon/trout fishing can be arranged.

If you are traveling through central Scotland, the Ben Lawers Bunkhouse is a perfect stop. This small and cosy four star hostel can be found in Glen Lyon, Scotland’s longest glen - 3 miles from the Ben Lawers nature reserve.

Glen Lyon is a remote stunningly beautiful glen that runs for some 34 unforgettable miles of stone bridges, Caledonian pine forest, deep river gorges and dramatic mountain peaks. Local legends abound, Glen Lyon being a main route for west-east passage for 2000 years. There are standing stones and historic remnants dating from the era of St Columba.

The glen is part of a National Scenic Area in Highland Perthshire and is of particular interest to walkers. Stroll by the river Lyon and watch for leaping salmon, or follow one of the many hill tracks and high level hill walks.

You will find the Ben Lawers Bunkhouse in the historic hamlet of Milton Eonan, a working croft on the site of a 7th Century watermill. There is a spectacular waterfall, just meters away. We are surrounded by Munros - Perthshire’s highest peak, Ben Lawers, is just a few miles away. The National Trust for Scotland owns Ben Lawers and guided walks showing the alpine flora are available in the summer months.

The area abounds in wildlife with many different bird species, and flowers of considerable botanical interest. Red deer often come to graze on the croft and the stags can be heard roaring loudly during the rutting season.

Accommodation is a traditional stone cottage furnished to a high standard. Your comfortable bunk room is complemented by a fully equipped kitchen and a separate living room. Here you can relax by the wood burning stove and unwind. We have supplied board games, maps, books and satellite television for you to enjoy.

Would you like to start your day with a full Scottish breakfast or just a bowl of porridge? We can supply packed lunches and a thermos of soup. When you return after your day out, we can provide a homemade supper, tailored to your requirements. Vegan and vegetarian catering is also possible – just ask.

Golf, fishing and white water rafting are just some of the activities in this part of Highland Perthshire. From whisky tasting at the Dewar’s distillery in Aberfeldy to delicious cuisine at one of the excellent restaurants in Tayside, your hosts will be happy to give you recommendations for things to see and do in the area.

Take a drive over Ben Lawers road and explore Loch Tay, Scotland’s longest inland loch, famous for its fishing and water sports. Nearby, you will discover the beautiful Highland village of Killin, where you can explore the burial ground of the NcNabs and see the Falls of Dochart, a spectacular series of rapids that carry the river under the bridge and through the village.

At the opposite end of Loch Tay you can also find Kenmore, a picture postcard village with its short main street of whitewashed cottages. At one end is the village church with its elegant clock-tower, at the other the spectacular arched entrance to the grand Taymouth Castle, where Queen Victoria was entertained.

The castle dates to the early 1800s, built by the Campbells of Glenorchy, as the family seat. Immediately outside the castle archway, and filling much of the north side of the main street, is the Kenmore Hotel, one of Scotland's oldest Inns. Here, you can read a poem that Rabbie Burns wrote on the wall of the bar in 1787.

When you are visiting Scotland, there is no better place to stay than in Glen Lyon. The Lonely Planet Great Britain describes the glen as having “a marvelous otherworldly ambience.” For West Perthshire this world famous guidebook ranks Milton Eonan as the top choice for accommodation – “the setting is fabulous.”

We look forward to welcoming you to our croft.
