Information enquiry Booking

This stylish hotel, used by renowned crime novelist Dorothy L. Sayers as she penned one of her novels, offers excellent standards of food, accommodation and service in the picturesque Gatehouse of Fleet.

The Ship Inn is a hostelry with a long history, but is now a modern and most comfortable hotel, having recently undergone a total refurbishment. The rooms have a stylish but still homely feel with a high standard of comfort. Each of the rooms offers a unique blend of contemporary design and comfort so you can relax with a fabulous bathroom, flat screen television, internet access and tea and coffee facilities.

Crime novelist Dorothy L. Sayers wrote her famed whodunnit Five Red Herrings while she stayed at this wonderful property, then called the Anwoth Hotel. Sayers had a true affinity with Gatehouse of Fleet, Kirkcudbright and the surrounding area in which the novel is based and you can follow in the footsteps of her hero, Lord Peter Wimsey, on a special trail which takes in many of the sites described in the novel.

The inn’s location in the lovely village of Gatehouse of Fleet ensures a peaceful and friendly atmosphere. The area is surrounded by a stunning landscape of sea, lochs, forests and beautiful countryside. A fascinating mix of historical destinations, fabulous forest walks, river and sea fishing, golf courses and wonderful gardens are all within easy reach.
