Crime novelist Dorothy L. Sayers wrote her famed whodunnit Five Red Herrings while she stayed at this wonderful property, then called the Anwoth Hotel. Sayers had a true affinity with Gatehouse of Fleet, Kirkcudbright and the surrounding area in which the novel is based and you can follow in the footsteps of her hero, Lord Peter Wimsey, on a special trail which takes in many of the sites described in the novel.
The inn’s location in the lovely village of Gatehouse of Fleet ensures a peaceful and friendly atmosphere. The area is surrounded by a stunning landscape of sea, lochs, forests and beautiful countryside.
