Rhins of Galloway is perfectly located between the two ferry ports of Stranraer and Cairnryan, enjoying the benefits of out-of-town semi-rural surroundings, but still within a few minutes drive of the ferries, shops and eateries.

Situated on the main A77, in an acre and a half of lawned gardens, and with plentiful private car parking, there is a shingle beach and a lovely coastal walk just 20 yards across the road.

The views from the building can be enjoyed from outside in all weathers from the shelter of the covered verandah that fronts the building, and take in Loch Ryan, Cairnryan ferry port, and beautiful unspoilt farmland and countryside to the sides and rear.

We offer quality accommodation within a hotel setting (despite the style and stature of the building, the fact that we do not operate a licensed bar or provide evening meals, means that we are defined as a Guest House rather than a Hotel). The premises are only open to guests staying with us.

Our placement makes us ideal overnight accommodation for travellers using the Stena Line ferries from Stranraer and the P&O ferries from Cairnryan, and provides a wonderful place from which to spend longer enjoying the unspoilt beauty of the area.

Officially opened by Princess Alice, Duchess of Gloucester in 1943, the building itself has had a variety of uses, boasting a history that can make a place feel very unique and special. Bedrooms have quality en-suite bathrooms and are decorated with classic simplicity using contemporary furniture. Bedroom corridors and other communal areas are furnished with an eclectic mix of antiques and modern design, giving us a pleasantly distinctive character.

We have single, double, twin and family bedrooms, all having fully-tiled en-suite bathrooms with toilet, basin & high pressure shower/shower bath.

As well as our en-suite bedrooms, we have a separate family accommodation unit sleeping up to 4. Within this unit, is a vestibule, opening onto double bedroom, twin bedroom, and bathroom (with shower). The unit is ideal for families with older children.

All bedrooms are double glazed, have armchairs or sofas, controllable heating, colour television with full range of "Free-to-air" satellite TV and radio channels, hairdryer, and well-stocked courtesy tray with tea & coffee making facilities.

A wireless access point to the internet is permanently available for laptop users.

The lounge is open for the sole use of guests from early morning through to late evening. Groups of comfortable leather chairs and sofas create a comfortable and stylish environment in which to relax. A number of board games, and a collection of several hundred books are available to be enjoyed.

There are a number of licensed restaurants and eating places in the area, both in Stranraer and Cairnryan, which we are happy to recommend.

The building is surrounded by lawns and pleasant gardens, which because of the semi-rural location, are frequented by hare, rabbits, pheasants and a huge variety of other birds (swallows nest yearly on the front veranda). The pond in the adjoining farmland enjoys the return of swans each spring, and deer can sometimes be seen in the hills and fields behind the building.

Despite the best efforts of the sea winds, a south facing aspect to the building helps keep it colourful. Buddleia bushes attract a host of butterflies, with lilacs providing scent on the veranda in early summer, replaced by sweet peas and lilies as the days get hotter.
