Make yourself at home in The Cottage! Combining the modern facilities you would expect from contemporary self-catering holiday accommodation with a peaceful rural environment, The Cottage offers luxury accommodation at an affordable price. Set in 2.7 acres at the edge of the village of Blackridge, the old coaching stopover between Glasgow and Edinburgh, The Cottage is well positioned to access visitor attractions in either city. Sleeping 4 adults in twin and double bedrooms, and with cot and high-chair facilities available for infants, The Cottage provides a family friendly environment where you can relax in comfort. Maybe it's the real wood-burning fire, the widescreen TV-DVD system, or just being able to clear away the dishes into the dishwasher, we think you'll find it hard to leave!

Tell me more about The Cottage....
Situated on an exclusive site forming part of the Lowland Crofting Scheme, The Cottage is a self-contained annex to the main family croft and is available from March 2008. Fully double glazed and centrally heated, The Cottage offers accommodation for 4 adults + infant, comprising:

Where is The Cottage?
The croft occupies a 2.7 acre site northwest of the village of Blackridge and is only 10 - 15 minutes drive from the M8 motorway. Detailed driving directions are available on the website.

What is there to do locally?
The property is a short drive from a huge number of visitor attractions, so there is a family activity for every day of the week, rain or shine!

Historical sites include Edinburgh Castle, Holyrood House, the world heritage village at New Lanark, Linlithgow Palace and Hopetoun House. For younger children there are several soft-play centres, swimming pools and sports centres within easy reach. The nearby Five Sisters Zoo, Muiravonside Park and the Almond Valley Heritage Centre are great for active kids who enjoy animals and being outdoors. For wet days there are fantastic, children-friendly museums in Glasgow, including Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, the Museum of Transport, and Glasgow Science Centre. Multiplex cinemas and ten-pin bowling are only 20 minutes away in either Livingston or Coatbridge. The easily-accessible Clyde Valley tourist route offers an abundance of family garden centres and coffee shops, and an unbeatable variety of shops is available in Livingston (Livingston Designer Outlet) and Glasgow (the Glasgow Fort).

For outdoor types, the croft is a few minutes walk from Blawhorn Moss nature reserve, and the picturesque Hillend Reservoir is an easy 8 mile roundtrip along the scenic Millennium Cycle Route 75 (Bathgate to Airdrie). For birdwatchers The Cottage is within easy travelling distance of popular birding spots including Linlithgow Loch, Beecraigs Country Park, and Bangour and Lochcote Reservoirs, and many others. Anglers can enjoy permit fishing at Linlithgow Loch and Hillend Reservoir, and many more local fisheries listed on www.fishing-uk-scotland.com.

Other great family days out include visits to the Falkirk Wheel, hands-on pottery at the Ceramic Experience (Linlithgow) and Deep-Sea World at North Queensferry. A trip to Beecraigs Country Park to see the deer farm and adventure playground is always fun, and nearby Polkemmet Country Park has plenty of space for picnicking and running around - it even has a nine-hole golf course and coffee shop.
