No 8 Shore

No 8 Shore is a delightfully unexpected place from where you can do an amazing number of things. Walk in the country along miles of beaches and cliffs, swim in the sea (I did as a child!), do almost any of your favourite outdoor sports, perhaps golf on ordinary or world-class courses, birdwatching, climbing (3000ft mountains 30 miles away), safe cycling, sea or river fishing of every sort, sea sports, sailing (berth your own yacht out front!)
There’s archaeology, Scottish history, ancient civilisations (over 2500 years), town trails, conservation areas, sail round the still-working Bell Rock lighthouse, built in 1811 by men just with hand picks and chisels. There is an active theatre, a modern swimming pool, a sports/leisure club, a pro-active museum, a new visitor centre, a miniature railway.
And the weather? Arbroath has a unique physical geography which gives it the second highest number of daily sunshine hours in UK.
Or, you could just wander round a town of friendly, but discreet people who know you’re on holiday and might just want a quiet, relaxing holiday with economically-priced cafes and restaurants, or grander affairs in grander places as you choose. Perhaps you could spend the afternoon in the comfortable sitting-room above a fascinating working harbour: fishing boats, yachts: little ones or ocean-going; or a magnificent annual Sea-Fest.
No 8 Shore is a comfortable, spacious, three-bedroom second floor flat which sleeps six, in a 150 year-old red sandstone house. It is built beside Arbroath harbour, with working fishing boats beside pleasure boats and a life-boat station, directly over-looked to the south and over the sea from the lounge and two of the bedrooms. So you can be ‘part of it all’ yet remote if you wish!
The fully-carpeted lounge/dining area and bedrooms all have windows (child-safe if you wish), have good clean comfortable furniture, and my photographs (an amateur!) and my wife’s paintings (a professional!) on the walls. The bathroom is not small, has a bath/shower and has non-slip ceramic floor tiles. The kitchen is well equipped with a similar floor to the bathroom. The flat door has a good quality door lock, for those who feel safer that way – but not really a problem here. The electric central heating can be timed, with individual radiators turned on/off as required, or just turned on for a short ‘heat’, for individual taste. There is ample clothes and other cupboard space – so you don’t have to continually fall over Dad’s old fully pressurised rubber diving suit which he insists on taking on any holidays near water!
There will be starter supplies of milk, tea, coffee and bread lest you don’t have time to bring or buy your own. Please let me know if you have a special requirement in this respect.
There will be one good-sized towel per person, per week: you may hire more in advance as you require.
There will be an information folder to cover as many topics as I can think of that might be useful; there will also be some books, games and some ornaments for your own interest.
In most circumstances, (though this cannot be guaranteed) there will be someone to meet you on your arrival at the flat, who will show you round and advise as required. There will, however, always be a letter from me so that you know where to contact me for any assistance not already provided.
The main condition of acceptance of any booking is that good care is taken of the property and its contents. Holidays start from 3.30pm on the day of arrival until 10.30 on the day of departure. A deposit of 50% of the rental is payable to confirm your booking. The balance is payable one month before the holiday. Where bookings are made less than one month before arrival, the full amount of rental is payable when renting.
Occupancy - No more than the maximum number of people may use it – namely six. We cannot be liable for any loss, damage, sickness or injury whatsoever caused which may be sustained during the holiday to the tenant or any member of the holiday party or guest.
Bed linen and towels, one towel pp., supplied. Extra towels can be hired in advance.
With any cause for complaint or accidental damage, this must be reported to me immediately. It is too late to report the matter after the holiday.
Smoking is not permitted in the property, or the stairway, or downstairs corridor.
Payment may be made by sterling cheque or credit/debit card (Visa, Mastercard, Delta, Maestro, Switch only). For late bookings at less than 10 days before the start of the holiday, only credit/debit card payment can be accepted. Bookings can only be made by phone, or email.
