Hillview, Moffat

Hillview is a well-maintained family home, with a secluded garden, in a quiet location five minutes walk from the centre of Moffat.

Moffat is the small town at the centre of Southern Scotland. Just off the M74, it is ideal for exploring Dumfries and Galloway and the Scottish Borders. Within an hour’s drive to the west are beautiful sandy beaches, castles and stately homes, hill-walking, lochs, rivers, farmlands and quiet cycling routes. To the east lie the Grey Mare’s Tail waterfall, Sir Walter Scott country and the ruined abbeys of the Borders. The coast-to-coast path, the Southern Upland Way, passes the edge of Moffat. Edinburgh and Glasgow are just over an hour away.

Hillview sits in Beechgrove, a no-through road leading to the farms at the foot of the famous local beauty spot, the Devil’s Beef Tub. The Hope Johnstone Park is opposite with tennis courts (Easter-Oct only), indoor sports hall, football pitch, swings and the Annan Water. The house looks out onto the Moffat Hills.

Hillview is a listed building in a conservation area. The accommodation comprises:
Double bedroom 1 with a double and single bed;
Double Bedroom 2 with a king size bed;
Single Bedroom with single bed;
Living-room (with double bed settee and single “Z bed”); Dining-room; and Kitchen, with dining area. There is a bathroom with bath upstairs, and bathroom with shower downstairs. The garden is at the back.

The house is not fully accessible – it has a low step into the front door – but use of the very high quality double bed settee in the living-room would make it suitable for someone with limited mobility who can’t use stairs. The garden, however, is on a slope and most of it is only accessible by steps.

Moffat has a wide range of small shops including a local baker, butcher, greengrocer, deli, wine shop, a small supermarket, and of course the famous Moffat Toffee shop. It has a large number of hotels and cafes serving food and a small theatre showing amateur and visiting professional companies. You can walk to the two healing wells which made Moffat’s international reputation as a spa town in the eighteenth century – but we doubt the drinking water meets today’s health and safety standards! There are shorter walks from the house along the Annan Water and up the small, wooded, hill at the back. There are a wide range of potential local cycle rides.
