The Old School

Getting away from it all takes on a new dimension here. Situated on the shores of Loch Awe, Dalavich is a perfect base for walking, fishing, boating and cycling – or just relaxing with the family. Take in the stunning scenery and feel yourself unwind as the stress of busy schedules disappears in this oasis of peace.

The Old School, Dalavich, is a former primary school, recently refurbished to provide four spacious holiday flats. Each ground-floor apartment has one, two or three bedrooms, with a bright open-plan kitchen/living area. Warm décor and comfy sofas make this the perfect place to relax – and no-one will shout at you for day-dreaming out of the window.

Facilities include fully-equipped kitchens and a TV and DVD player in every flat. There’s also a large private garden, with lots of space to run around – or plenty quiet corners for relaxing with a book. (You can choose one from our library if you forget to bring your own!)

You’re far from the madding crowd here, but there’s still plenty to do to help you recharge your batteries. You’ll find numerous lochside and forest walks, including the Dalavich Oakwood Trail, and a number of attractive cycle routes. Keep your eyes peeled for wildlife and you might even spot an otter, a wildcat or an eagle en route.

If you’re more interested on the wildlife on the end of your fishing line, some of the largest brown trout in Europe are waiting to be caught in Loch Awe and fishing permits are available locally. Our guests also have priority booking on beginners’ courses run locally, if you’d like to try your hand at fishing for the first time. Courses are run by a warden on Loch Awe with many years’ experience.

You can hire a boat and head off to explore the ruined castle on the other side of the loch – with the promise of great views when you get to the top. Or just take a picnic down to the shore and reflect on the grandeur of the mountains around you as you skim a few stones.

You can also use Dalavich as a base to explore the spectacular scenery nearby – head north to Glen Coe, south to Crinan, or west to Oban and the isles.
