Gateside - Getting There

Getting there from the Information Centre

Take train to Wallyford or Prestonpans (11 minutes on the North Berwick line) then a taxi for approximately three miles.

Getting There by Car

From A1 about 10 miles south of Edinburgh take the turning signposted Wallyford/Dalkeith. Turn towards Dalkeith. Within a few hundred yards take 1st left up single track country lane opposite the signpost for the A1. Ignoring the turn off to the left half a mile on, continue on main lane for 1.5 miles. Fa’side Castle will be visible near the top of the hill.

Getting There by Railway

From Edinburgh Waverley take North Berwick line train to Wallyford or Prestonpans (approx. 11 minutes) then take a taxi for three miles.

Getting there by Aeroplane

From Edinburgh Airport take the City ByPass. At Old Craighall roundabout take the A1 towards Berwick. Take first exit, signposted Wallyford/Dalkeith. Turn right towards Dalkeith. Take 1st left up single trck lane. Ignore turning bout half a mile up lane. Remain on main lane. Fa’side Castle is situated at the top of the hill 1.5 miles on.

Getting There by Ferry

Take ferry to Rosyth. Cross Forth Road Bridge heading for Edinburgh and follow the Edinburgh City Bypass south. At Old Craighall roundabout take A1 towards Berwick. Take first exit to Wallyford/Dalkeith. Turn right towards Dalkeith then take 1st left up single track country lane. Fa’side Castle is situated 1.5 miles on up the main lane at the top of the hill.
