Cunningsburgh offers the opportunity for a relaxing holiday in scenic surroundings and nearby are meadows with a wide variety of rare and beautiful wild flowers. With spectacular coastal walks you can watch seals in their natural habitat, do some bird watching or simply get away from it all. The nature reserves of Noss and Sumburgh Head are easily accessible by car or bus.
The cottages face towards the island of Mousa which has the best preserved Pictish broch in Europe. A passenger boat service to the island is provided from the nearby village of Sandwick. Mousa is also home to many nesting seabirds and waders and is an excellent place to watch seals and possibly spot an otter. A highlight of your holiday would be a midnight trip to the island to see the storm petrels as they return from their feeding grounds.
The South Mainland is home to some of the best archaeological sites in Shetland namely Jarlshof and Old Scatness and these are a 20 minute drive away.
Shetland boasts excellent leisure facilities, including a large leisure complex in Lerwick, with a bowling hall. The new Shetland Museum opened in 2007 and is well worth a visit.
