Alexander House Bed & Breakfast

At Alexander House we provide clean and friendly, quality accommodation. Originally three railway cottages, built around 1850 our detached house was recently converted into comfortable Bed & Breakfast Accommodation. Close to Gretna Green Railway Station, the M74 and A75, Alexander House is an excellent base for touring the South of Scotland and Cumbria. We are conveniently situated in the village, close to the local wedding venues and The World Famous Blacksmith Shop. Gretna Green is literally the Gateway to Scotland.

Newly refurbished, Alexander House is situated in the heart of Gretna Green. All our rooms are on the ground floor with easy access for the less mobile and elderly. We have ample parking. Cyclists are welcome and we offer a lockable storage facility.

We are located 1 minutes walk from the Gretna Green Railway Station, around the corner from the village Church and Gretna Hall Hotel and 5 minutes walk to The World Famous Blacksmith’s Shop.

The Village of Gretna with its Anvil Hall and Registry Office is a 10 minutes’ walk.
Gretna Gateway Shopping Outlet Village is also within walking distance. Carlisle City is 7 miles away and the Lake District and Roman Wall are to the east.

There are many Golf Courses in our region - Carlisle, Dumfries, Lockerbie and on the coast at Powfoot.

Alexander House is an ideal base for a Holiday. Travel west and you can discover the beauty of Dumfries and Galloway. Take the Galloway Coastal Route with many points of interest along the way including the mediaeval Caerlaverock Castle and Ruthwell, home of the world’s first savings bank. Explore Dumfries, home of Robert Burns, 20 miles away and visit Dumfries Museum and Camera Obscura for a bird’s eye view of the region.

We have recently welcomed bird watchers to Gretna Green to see the amazing starling displays at dusk. The Galloway Forest Park also offers a variety of interesting wildlife, flora and fauna.
