Ballochruin Farm

Ballochruin Farm is a traditional red sandstone building with spectacular views of the Campsie Fells. In the guest lounge there is an open fireplace with a log fire, comfortable sofas and a lovely dining room which overlooks the gardens. The bedrooms have en suite bathrooms comfortable super king size beds and fine linen, The Butterfly Room boasts a ‘bath for two’ whilst the Orchid Room has a walk-in shower.

This is very much a working farm with Galloway cattle, geese, ducks and hens and a growing herd of friendly alpacas which guests are encouraged to get to know.

Fishing is available on the River Endrick that runs through the farm and you might be lucky enough to glimpse some of the otters and kingfishers that inhabit this area.

Close to Loch Lomond and the West Highland Way, The Queen Elizabeth Forest with walks, cycling and horse riding and Mugdock and Balloch Country Parks make this a wonderful area to enjoy this beautiful country. It is equally as good for those interested in the history of Scotland with Stirling Castle and the Wallace Monument close by and the Glengoyne Distillery within easy reach.

Ballochruin Farm is a traditional red sandstone building that has been sympathetically renovated keeping the original features but adding a touch of luxury. The two guest bedrooms are generously proportioned with spectacular views of the Campsie Fells and the alpaca herd to the front of the house. Both bedrooms have ensuite bathrooms – The Orchid room has a walk in shower and the Butterly room has a ‘bath for two’. The beds are either twin or superking with fine Egyptian linen. There is a guest lounge with an open fire on the chilly evenings. l

For guests interested in the alpaca herd there are opportunities to join in with the feeding normally between 4-5 pm each day. The female alpacas give birth to a cria (spanish word for creation) each year and these are spread out between May and September. Ballochruin Farm is also an accredited training centre for British Alpaca Society courses on various aspects of alpaca care and assessment. They also have free range hens, geese, ducks, Galloway cows and Max and Holly the two family dogs.

There are many walks around the area, close to the West Highland Way and Loch Lomond. Mugdock and Balloch Country Parks are an easy drive away. The main cities of Glasgow, Edinburgh, Stirling and Perth are all within an hour by car.

Fishing is available on Ballochruin’s own stretch of the River Endrick. As the Endrick is a spate river the best time is in September and October. The farm is a paradise for nature. It is possible to spot and otter on the river and a kingfisher flashing by. There are herons, wild ducks, lapwings and a barn owl and many other resident and visiting birds.

There are good eating places closeby in Killearn, Balfron, Fintry and Kippen. It may also be possible to dine at Ballochruin Farm. Supper or Dinner can be served by arrangement around a communial table with wonderful views to the Campsie Fells.
