Glenahuil
GLENAHUIL is a great place to escape to, away from it all. The house is set in a 50 acre working farm with spectacular views of the Isles of Arran and Bute.
Over the winter holidays many families and groups have enjoyed the centrally heated house with its spacious interior, warmed by the open log/coal fire in the sitting room.
At other seasons, there is a nearby mile wide sandy beach for playing games or beachcombing. Hillwalking, birdwatching and painting are favourite activities and there is a 9hole links golf course overlooking the beautiful Kyles of Bute. There is also a saling school in the pretty village os Tighnabruaich just 6 miles away, where there are 3 hotels/pubs all of which serve gourmet food in the dining rooms.
GLENAHUIL provides comfortable accommodation for 7 in 2 double and 1 triple bedrooms. There are 3 reception rooms and 2 bathrooms, one with an electric shower. there is also a fully equipped eat-in kitchen also with fantastic views over the Isle of Arran.
The 130 year old farmhouse has been lovingly restored retaining its character whilst modernizing the facilities. Three are 5 miles of forest to the north of the house, ending in the golf course on the hill above Kames overlooking the village of Tighnabruiach and the Isle of Bute.
Looking south the view is of the fids down to the forest and Ardlamont peninsula, out to sea and the Islands of Bute Inchmarnock and the mountainous Arran with the Ayrshire coast in the far background across the water. The village of Tughnabruaich is 6 miles away. It was voted prettiest village in Stirlingshire and Argyll in 2002. It boasts a bank, post office and groceries/general stores, as well as a craft shop, a tea shop, cafe and antique shop, but perhaps the main attractions are the 3 hotels which provide gourmet dining as well as lively public bars. One can arrange to take sailing courses through the Sailing School and Painting classes through the Art Gallery or go fishing - either deep sea or fly fishing in the season.
Further afield than the village, the ferry across Loch Fyne from Portavadie to Tarbert opens up the entire Kintyre peninsula with its gold courses, beaches, Crarae Gardens botanic gardens, Inverary Castle and Jail, horseback riding. Some visitors have gone to Arran to play golf for the day via 2 ferries. it is not too far to climb Ben Lomond in the day from Glenahuil and the scenery en route is spectacular. Dunoon provides some shopping and the ferries across the Firth of Clyde, the Castle museum, a great indoor swimming pool with a magna slide and another Botanic gardens, as well as sailing opportunities on the Clyde.
