The Flying School
Named after the swallows which once nested and learned to fly inside the space before it was renovated,and now nest outside. This 200 year old church has been lovingly converted to offer you luxurious accommodation and a perfect base for exploring the region.
The Flying School has a lovely open plan sitting room, complete with satellite TV and a cosy wood burning stove, which leads into a stylish and fully equipped kitchen. There are beautiful wooden floors throughout and a handmade oak staircase which leads to two stylishly decorated and furnished bedrooms, which have massive arched windows offering you lovely views over the rolling countryside and surrounding area. The master bedroom has an modern en suite with an exhilarating power shower and the main bathroom has a large bath with mood lighting - perfect for enjoying a relaxing soak after adventurous days.
Outside, a large patio and seating area overlooks the 3-acre paddock where the owners’ friendly sheep and chickens live and ducks swim on the winding burn. The chickens lay delicious free-range eggs which you can enjoy for your breakfast!
The Flying School is an ideal place to base yourselves for a relaxing break where you choose the pace of your holiday. Nearby, Thornhill is a haven for shopping with exclusive shops and boutiques while a variety of excellent restaurants, cafes and traditional pubs provide plenty of choice for eating out. Drumlanrig Castle with its fabulous mountain biking and walking routes is only 3 miles away and in summer, the castle’s adventure playground and beautiful gardens offer a great day out. Here you can also enjoy Land Rover tours, architectural tours, and bicycle museum and disc golf – one of the world’s fastest growing sports!
Slightly further afield you will find the Solway Coast. Its beautiful beaches and stunning coastline is perfect for horse riding, cycling, walking and leisurely drives along the quiet roads. As you tour around keep your eyes peeled for Andy Galsworthy’s magnificent outdoor sculpture project, the Striding Arches.
