Volunteer Arms Hotel
Small friendly family run hotel and restaurant situated in the picturesque village of Penpont.
The Volunteer Arms Hotel
The ideal base
The Volunteer Arms Hotel is located near the banks of the River Nith in the centre of the beautiful village of Penpont providing an excellent base in the South West of Scotland which is famous for its shooting, fishing, cycling, walking and many superb golf courses.
Famous for its salmon fishing, the River Nith is one of the many attractions in the area. Nearby the Duke of Buccleuch’s Drumlanrig Castle is open to the public from April to October and Keir Mill, the birthplace of Kirkpatrick McMillan, inventor of the bicycle, is open all year round.
The area is also a haven for mountain biking with the good centres of Ae, Drumlanrig, Mabie & Dalbeattie only a short drive away. There are also many cycle routes in the area, part of the National Cycle Byway. Access to the Southern Upland way is also only a few miles away.
The Volunteer Arms Hotel itself is a local landmark in the centre of the village of Penpont. We have four well appointed bedrooms, two with en-suite facilities, and offer bed and a hearty breakfast all year round. At the well stocked bar we serve a variety of beers, spirits and soft drinks. In our recently refurbished restaurant, you can enjoy lunch or an evening meal from a wide ranging menu to suit all tastes. All our food is freshly prepared using the finest local produce including beef from the Buccleuch Estate.
