Loch Shiel House Hotel - Getting There

Getting there from the Information Centre

City Link offers a bus service to Fort William where Shiel Buses operate a service to Acharacle from Fort William. Please check with them for a time table for connections.

Getting There by Car

From the Corran Ferry (8 miles south of Fort William on the A82) and Ardgour take the A861 through Strontian and Salen. Acharacle is a small Highland village on the shore of Loch Shiel with the Loch Shiel House Hotel at its centre close to the general store, post office, café and outdoor shop. The Hotel can be found on the Right as you enter the village. If Coming from the North or The Isle Of Skye take the A830 from Mallaig or Fort William to Lochailort. At Lochailort take the A861 through Glen Uig until you reach Acharacle. You will find the Hotel on the Left opposite the village store.

Approximate driving times are three hours from both Inverness to the north and Glasgow to the south.

Getting There by Railway

Scotrail runs a regular service from Glasgow Queen Street to Fort William on the West Highland line. There is also a sleeper service available from London.

Trains to Fort William also continue to Mallaig where there is a request stop at Lochailort. It is possible to get a bus from there to Acharacle but it is very infrequent. Check with Shiel buses for a timetable.

A taxi can be hired from Fort William station. Alternatively, car hire is available locally.

Getting there by Aeroplane

The most convenient airports are Inverness (80 miles) and Glasgow (90 miles) from where you can hire a car.
