An Cuan (The Ocean) is a stylish and comfortable B&B right in the heart of Bowmore. It is ideally located for visiting all parts of Islay and will be a comfortable and friendly base for your stay on the island.
The house has been newly refurbished and all our bedrooms have en suite facilities, television, tea and coffee making facilities, hairdryer and other comforts to make your stay memorable. All rooms have either a sea view or a garden view and the house is mere stones throw from all of Bowmore’s facilities.
An Cuan is stuffed full of books of all sort that guests are welcome to dip into and the emphasis is very much on the house providing a cosy and comfortable experience for visitors. This is a home away from home.
Breakfast is served in the residents lounge and includes a range of cereals, porridge, fresh and stewed fruits, fruit juice, loads of toast and fresh coffee or tea. Whenever possible locally sourced produce is used and cooked breakfasts include bacon, sausages, black pudding and eggs from local suppliers. Fish – kippers or smoked haddock - is also available for breakfast and with prior warning, if you have a special occasion to celebrate, I will provide ‘de luxe’ breakfasts of smoked salmon and champagne! I will be happy to discuss any special dietary requirements you may have and will do my best to accommodate your preferences.
Packed lunches and light evening meals can also be arranged with advance notice at an additional charge.
Your host, Fergus, was born on Islay- so he is an ‘Ileach’- but spent most of his life living in London. He returned to Islay only two years ago but will be pleased to help you find your way around the island and share his local knowledge with you. Fergus has a good working knowledge of French and Italian and is working hard at improving his Gaelic.
