Skye Crofters Cottage

Crofters Cottage is a traditional ‘Black House’ set in the north west coast of Skye, approx 5 miles south of Dunvegan. The property was built in 2009 and although based on the old Black House, it has all the modern day amenities expected for a luxurious holiday away – a must for any couple! The cottage is finished to a very high standard with a peat burning stove and tiled floor through-out. There is under floor heating supplied by a geothermal heat source.
Ideal for couples and honeymooners.
This modern day ‘Black House’ is the ideal setting for a relaxing, romantic break on the Isle of Skye. Recently completed in 2009, the cottage boasts uninterrupted coastal views and the peace and tranquillity required to sit back, relax and take in the scenery that Skye has to offer. We also have two mountain bikes which can be provided to guests staying at the cottage.
The cottage has a large double bedroom with king size bed, living room, kitchen and luxurious bathroom with double bath and steam shower. The cottage has it own, crystal clear water supply from a well on the croft.
Locally, you can indulge in some of the best seafood available in the west coast of Scotland, enjoying a meal at the world famous ‘Three Chimneys’ restaurant, ‘Ullinish Lodge’, and the ‘Steinn Inn’ – the oldest inn on Skye. Good wholesome food is also available at the ‘Dunvegan Hotel’, ‘Old School Restaurant’ and ‘The Old Inn’ in Carbost.
The area boasts an abundance of wildlife with Sea Eagles, Golden Eagles and Buzzards frequently being seen in the area. On the shore-line, keep an eye out for otters as they can also be seen here and at the river 100m away. As members of the RSPB, we will keep you informed of good wildlife walks, rambles and the best areas for seeing wildlife.
If you are interested in history, there is no better place to come than Skye. Learn about the feuds between the clans. Six miles north you have Dunvegan Castle, seat of the great Clan Macleod and at Armadale in the south you have the Clan Donald Centre and Armadale Castle, home to the MacDonalds, Lord of the Isles. In between you have the breathtaking scenery of the Cuillin mountains, the Old Man of Storr and Quiriang on the Trotternish Ridge and stunning views of the Cuillins from Elgol. Boat trips can be taken into Loch Coruisk from Elgol with the Misty Isle and the Bella Jane boat trips.
Don’t forget Portree, the islands capital and only 13 miles away. Here you will find all the local gift shops, local bars and picturesque harbour where in 1803, the ship ‘The Polly’ set sail for Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, with islanders hopeful of a new future.
